Tips for Saving Money on Your Honeymoon

  1. Travel off-peak: Avoid travelling during peak tourist seasons when prices for flights and accommodation are highest. Instead, opt for shoulder or off-peak seasons, which can offer significant savings and a more relaxed experience.
  2. Book in advance: Plan and book your flights and accommodation well in advance to take advantage of early bird discounts. This can help you secure better deals and avoid last-minute price hikes.
  3. Use travel rewards: If you have travel rewards or credit card points, now is the perfect time to use them. Many airlines and hotels offer excellent redemption options for honeymooners, allowing you to save money or upgrade your experience.
  4. Consider all-inclusive resorts: All-inclusive resorts can offer great value by bundling accommodation, meals, and activities into one price. This helps you avoid unexpected expenses and allows you to relax and enjoy your honeymoon without worrying about costs.
  5. Stay in budget accommodation: Consider staying in budget-friendly accommodation such as hostels, guesthouses, or vacation rentals. These options often provide excellent value and unique experiences, such as staying in a local’s home or a charming boutique property.
  6. Dine like a local: Enjoying local cuisine doesn’t have to be expensive. Seek out local eateries, street food stalls, and markets for authentic and affordable dining experiences. Not only will you save money, but you’ll also get a taste of the local culture.
  7. Take advantage of free activities: Many destinations offer free or low-cost activities, such as hiking, beachcombing, visiting parks, and exploring historic sites. Research these options in advance to make the most of your budget-friendly honeymoon.
  8. Travel light: Avoid excess baggage fees by packing light. Choose versatile clothing that can be mixed and matched, and consider washing clothes during your trip rather than bringing a large wardrobe.
  9. Use public transport: Instead of relying on taxis or rental cars, use public transportation to get around. Buses, trains, and metro systems are often much cheaper and can provide a more authentic travel experience.
  10. Look for deals and discounts: Keep an eye out for special deals and discounts on flights, accommodations, and activities. Sign up for newsletters, follow travel deal websites, and use discount codes to save money.

How to Choose a Perfect Honeymoon Destination

Planning your honeymoon is one of the most exciting parts of getting married. It’s your chance to unwind after the whirlwind of wedding planning and start your married life with a memorable adventure. But with so many beautiful places around the world, choosing the perfect honeymoon destination can be a bit overwhelming. Here are some tips to help you find the ideal spot that suits both your preferences and timing.

1) Consider your honeymoon budget

First and foremost, determine your budget. Your honeymoon is a special trip, but it’s important to set a realistic budget to avoid financial stress. Popular honeymoon destinations vary widely in cost, so knowing your budget will help narrow down your options. For instance, Southeast Asia offers exotic spots like Bali and Thailand that are relatively budget-friendly, while destinations like the Maldives or Bora Bora are more luxurious and expensive.

2) Decide on the type of honeymoon

Think about the type of experience you both want. Are you looking for a relaxing beach holiday, an adventurous exploration, a cultural trip, or a combination of these? There are so many fascinating destinations that lend themselves to the perfect honeymoon.

Understanding your shared interests will help guide your decision and ensure that both of you have a wonderful time.

  • Beach Lovers: If your idea of a perfect honeymoon involves lounging on pristine beaches, swimming in crystal-clear waters, and enjoying luxurious seaside resorts, then a beach destination is ideal. The Maldives and Seychelles are renowned for their overwater bungalows and coral reefs, offering a slice of paradise year-round. The Caribbean, with islands like Jamaica, St. Lucia, and the Bahamas, boasts beautiful beaches, great nightlife, and lots of water sports activities. For those who prefer the charm of Europe, the sun-soaked beaches of Greece, Spain, and Italy are best visited in the summer months. Imagine romantic strolls along the sandy shores of Santorini, the lively beach clubs of Ibiza, or even the Amalfi Coast.

  • Adventurers: If you both love the thrill of exploring new places, setting out on challenging hikes, and diving into nature, then an adventure-filled honeymoon might be perfect. New Zealand is a haven for adventure seekers, offering activities such as bungee jumping, white-water rafting, and trekking through breathtaking landscapes like Fiordland National Park. Costa Rica is another excellent choice, with its lush rainforests, active volcanoes, and abundant wildlife. Zip-lining through the forest canopy or surfing along the Pacific coast are just a few of the exciting activities available. The Canadian Rockies offer stunning mountain scenery, with opportunities for skiing, snowboarding, and hiking. Banff and Jasper National Parks are particularly popular for their scenic trails and outdoor adventures.

  • Cultural Enthusiasts: For couples who are fascinated by history, art, and local traditions, a cultural honeymoon is an excellent choice. Kyoto, Japan, offers a tapestry of ancient temples, traditional tea houses, and beautiful gardens, especially during cherry blossom season. Paris, the city of love, is perfect for romantic strolls along the Seine, visits to world-class museums like the Louvre, and enjoying the exquisite French cuisine in charming bistros. Marrakech, with its bustling souks, stunning palaces, and vibrant colours, provides a unique cultural experience in the heart of Morocco. Exploring the Medina, indulging in local dishes, and experiencing a traditional hammam are just a few of the highlights.

  • Combination: If you find it difficult to choose just one type of experience, consider a destination that offers a blend of beach relaxation, adventure, and cultural immersion. Bali, Indonesia, is a fantastic example, where you can relax on beautiful beaches, explore lush rice terraces, and visit ancient temples all in one trip. South Africa is another diverse destination, where you can enjoy safari adventures in Kruger National Park, relax on the beaches of Cape Town, and explore the city life. Italy offers a mix of beautiful coastlines, historic cities, and picturesque countryside, allowing you to experience the best of all worlds.

3) Think about the timing

The time of year you plan to travel is important in deciding your destination. Here’s a quick guide to some of the best honeymoon destinations by season:

  • Spring (March to May): Japan (for cherry blossoms), Morocco, and the Amalfi Coast.
  • Summer (June to August): European destinations like Greece, Italy, and France. Iceland is also a fantastic summer destination for its natural beauty.
  • Autumn (September to November): The Mediterranean remains warm, and it’s also a great time for visiting Australia or South Africa.
  • Winter (December to February): Tropical destinations like the Caribbean, Thailand, and the Maldives. For a winter wonderland, consider Switzerland or Canada.

Check out the best destinations for each month in our posts below:

4) Research the climate

Weather can make or break your honeymoon experience, so research the climate of your potential destinations. Avoid places during their rainy seasons or extreme weather conditions. For example, Southeast Asia has a monsoon season, and the Caribbean can be affected by hurricanes between June and November.

5) Look for special deals and packages

Many resorts and travel companies offer special honeymoon packages that include romantic extras like couples’ massages, candlelit dinners, and room upgrades. Look out for these deals as they can add a special touch to your honeymoon without breaking the bank.

6) Consider your personal preferences and interests

Lastly, consider your personal interests and preferences. If you both love wine, a trip to the vineyards of Tuscany or Napa Valley could be perfect. If wildlife excites you, a safari in Kenya or a visit to the Galápagos Islands could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Plan your perfect honeymoon

Choosing the perfect honeymoon destination involves balancing your budget, interests, and the best time to travel. Whether you’re dreaming of a  beach, an adventurous trek, or exploring museums, there’s a perfect destination out there for you. A wedding table plan is a chart that you place at the entrance of a wedding reception. It is typically displayed on a board or frame and shows where each guest will sit during the reception.

28 best wedding seating plan ideas

Lets jump into the top 28 best wedding seating charts.

1) Mirror, mirror

Try writing your table plan on a vintage mirror using paint pens or markers. This will give a chic and elegant look, and vintage mirrors are usually pretty easy to get hold of at secondhand shops. It not only looks beautiful but also adds a touch of glamour to your decor. Plus, it makes the perfect photo op for your guests!

2) Fly your flag

Have your guests’ names and table numbers printed on a range of colourful flags. You can then hang these flags from the roof of your venue for a festive atmosphere. Flags are a great way to display a wedding seating chart as they’re bold, colourful, and easy to read.

3) Cheeky chalkboard

Chalkboards are a pretty but rustic way to display your wedding table plan. You can either grab a pre-made chalkboard or paint a vintage frame or canvas with chalkboard paint. All these materials are readily available in craft or DIY stores.

Once this is complete you can write your table number and/or table names, along with the names of your guests, on the chalkboard using actual chalk or a chalkboard pen. Add a few doodles around for a sweet and whimsical vibe.

4) Rustic scrolls

If you’re looking for a classic and rustic wedding table plan, try using scrolls. You’ll need long rolls of parchment and a fountain pen or other type of ink for a classic finish. Roll out the parchment and write out the seating arrangements in elegant script. Hang the scrolls from a display or let them rest on a table for a timeless touch.

5) A classic bookshelf

If you’re a fan of classic literature or just love the smell of old books, consider making an old bookshelf into your wedding table plan. You’ll need a collection of books from a charity or secondhand shop, as well as a large bookcase to pull this off.

Write the table number or name directly onto the spine of a vintage book and place it on the top shelf of a bookshelf. Then, write the name of the guests sitting on each table on the spine of the other books and pile them up on the below book shelves. Make sure the guest name books align with the table number or table name book on the top shelf, so it’s easy for guests to find their names and see where they’re sitting. This setup not only adds a literary charm to your wedding but also gives guests an interactive and delightful way to find their seats.

6) Vintage records

If you love music, vintage records, or are simply trying to bring an eclectic charm to your big day, vintage records are the wedding seating chart for you. Gather a collection of vinyl records from  car boots sales, vintage shops, or charity shops.

Write the table numbers or names in the centre of each record where the label is. You can use paint pens or printed labels for a neat look. Then, list the names of the guests assigned to each table around the outer edge of the record. Display them on a stand, easel, or hang them on a wall for everyone to see.

7) Hang the banners

If you’re going for a regal theme, this could be the perfect touch.

Similarly to coloured flags, you could have your table names or table numbers, and the names of your guests, printed on large hanging banners. Choose elegant fabrics like velvet or silk and have the information printed or embroidered on the banners. Hang them from the ceiling, beams, or a custom frame at the entrance of your reception area. This dramatic display is sure to impress your guests and set the tone for a grand celebration.

8) Polaroid photos

This one may take a little forward planning or some quick thinking on the day, but it’s a fun way to let your guests know where they’re sitting.

You’ll need a polaroid camera and a board with your table names or numbers on it. During the cocktail hour, send a member of the wedding party around to take photos of all your guests. Once developed, pin or clip the photos onto the display board under the relevant table name or number.

Guests will have a whale of a time trying to find their picture and discovering where they’re seated. Bonus – the photos you take can double as part of your wedding guest book later!

9) Beautiful bouquets

Consider reusing the bridesmaids’ bouquets as part of your seating chart display. Place each bouquet in a vase and attach a card with the table number and guests’ names to it. This not only looks lovely but also keeps the flowers fresh and vibrant throughout the evening.

Consider giving each bridesmaid a different bouquet of flowers and naming your table numbers after the relevant flowers for added cohesion. For example, if the bride is carrying roses, the top table could be called ‘Roses’. Equally, if the bridesmaids are carrying daisies, tulips, and dahlias, you can name the corresponding tables ‘Daisies’, ‘Tulips’, and ‘Dahlias’.

For more creative wedding table name ideas like this, check out our dedicated post.

10) Perfect pottery

Collect a mix of different pottery vases, jugs, flutes, and other glazed pottery from secondhand shops, antique shops, and charity shops. Use each piece of pottery to represent a different table.

Write the table numbers on tags or directly onto the pottery using a paint pen. Then, place small cards with guests’ names around the pottery. Arrange them on a display table near the entrance of your reception area. If you can find a collection of similar pottery, you could use similar pots as wedding table centrepieces. This will give a sense of cohesion and helps guests find their table easily.

11) A pack of cards

If you’re a fan of a card game or simply love the Americana look of playing cards, this could be the seating chart for you. Alternatively this style is perfect for an Alice in Wonderland themed wedding or any other whimsical theme.

You’ll need a board or a beam with your wedding table names written on them. You should then write guests’ names on your playing cards. You can then hang or stick them under the corresponding table names so guests can find their seats.

12) Natural stones

If you prefer a more natural wedding seating chart, consider collecting some stones of different shapes and sizes from your local beach or river. Collect a range of colours, textures, and sizes. Clean the stones and write guests’ names and table numbers on them using a paint pen. Arrange the stones on a display table, grouped by table numbers.

Alternatively, try creating the layout of your tables using the stones available. Use large stones to represent tables and smaller stones to represent chairs. Dot the smaller stones around the larger ones and use a pen to note where guests should sit. Of course, this will only work if you have round tables, but it’s a beautiful and natural way to create a wedding table plan.

13) Lock and key

This one will need a little forward planning, and will work best for smaller wedding parties. However, if you’re looking for something more interactive, this wedding table plan could be the key (pun fully intended).

Assign each lock to a guest and ensure you label the corresponding key with the guest’s name. Then, create a display of locks attached to a board or frame. The locks should sit under the headings of table numbers or names which will let guests know where they’re sitting. Hang the keys on a separate board, place them in a decorative bowl for guests to find, or hand them out as guests arrive at the wedding.

When it’s time to sit down, guests will need to match their key to the correct lock. Once they unlock their lock, they’ll discover their table number. This fun and interactive seating chart will not only help guests find their seats but also provide a great icebreaker and conversation starter.

14) Cork board

Cheap and cheerful, a cork board wedding table plan is a simple but effective way to display your seating chart. Buy a large cork board and pin cards with guests’ names and table numbers onto it. You can decorate the board with ribbons, flowers, or even fairy lights to match your wedding theme. It’s easy to set up and allows for last-minute changes if needed. Plus, it’s a classic and versatile option that fits any wedding style.

15) Music sheets

If music has played a big part in your relationship or you simply love the whimsical and classic look of sheet music, consider using this as your wedding table plan.

Gather vintage music sheets and write the table numbers and guest names on them. You can either hand write them, have a calligrapher use metallic ink, or print the names onto the sheets for a more polished look. Display them on a board, frame them, or hang them from strings for a romantic and elegant touch. Try arranging fairy lights around the sheets or wires to complete the whimsical look.

16) Pretty seashells

If you’re having a destination wedding, or a beach or summer wedding, seashells are a beautiful way to let guests know where they’re sitting. Try collecting shells of different shapes, sizes, and colours for an eclectic look, and arrange them in a way that matches the layout of your tables.

The great thing about using shells is that you can easily find ones that match the shape of your tables. For example, you can use large scallop shells to represent round tables or long razor clam shells for rectangular tables. Use smaller shells to represent each seat and write the names of guests next to their corresponding spots.

To set up your seating chart, arrange the shells on a large tray filled with sand or a board covered with burlap or another natural, beach-themed fabric. Add some starfish, sea glass, and other beachy decorations for an extra touch of charm. This setup will not only fit perfectly with your theme but also bring a natural element to your wedding decor.

17) Film strips

Another classic way to create a wedding table plan is to use old film strips. This is perfect if you’re throwing a classic Hollywood or other vintage themed wedding. You’ll either need to purchase classic film strips or use your own from the times we had physical cameras (remember that?).

Write the table numbers on the strips using a metallic pen and then add the names of your guests underneath each table number. Hang the film strips vertically on a large frame or board. You can use small clips or pins to secure them. For a more dramatic effect, drape the strips from an old film reel. Decorate the area around your seating chart with classic Hollywood props like clapperboards, vintage cameras, and marquee lights to finish the look.

18) Puzzle pieces

If you want an interactive wedding seating chart, a puzzle piece wedding plan could be the one for you. Find a large, blank puzzle in a games shop or have a custom puzzle made with enough pieces for each of your guests. Write the table numbers on the puzzle pieces. Then, add the names of your guests to the corresponding pieces and hand them out during the cocktail reception.

As with the lock and key idea, this will work better for smaller wedding parties. Otherwise, you may find yourselves at a pinch point when it comes to seating the guests!

19) Keep it clear

If you prefer the look of minimalist wedding seating charts, try having your table numbers or names, and corresponding guest names, printed on a perspex or acrylic board. This clear, modern look is sleek and elegant, fitting seamlessly into any wedding theme. Place the clear board on an easel or frame it with fairy lights for a subtle yet sophisticated display. The transparent nature of the board allows it to blend with any decor while still standing out as a beautiful piece on its own.

20) Ceramic tiles

For a quirky and eclectic look, try collecting a range of ceramic tiles from craft fairs, vintage shops, or specialist ceramic shops. Write the table numbers and guests’ names on each tile using a paint pen or have them custom printed. Arrange the tiles on a large board or table near the entrance of your reception area. You can also use tile stands or easels to display them upright.

If you feel like getting a bit crafty, you could always sit down with your spouse-to-be and decorate your own ceramic tiles! This can be a fun and personal activity to do together before the big day. You can paint designs, write quotes, or add little doodles that reflect your relationship and the theme of your wedding. What’s more, you can hang onto the tiles after your special day as a lovely keepsake.

21) Doodle-bug

Looking for something sweet and personal? Have cartoons or doodles created of each of your guests as they RSVP. You could either draw these yourself or have a specialist wedding artist create the doodles. Once created, hang the doodles on a display board or string them up with clothespins under guests’ respective tables. Your guests will be obsessed with their cute doodles. And, bonus, they double as wedding favours!

22) Dreamcatchers

Dreamcatchers are perfect if you’re trying to achieve a boho feel. You can either use a few, large dream catchers or use a collection of smaller ones if you prefer the look. Try to match the colours of your dreamcatchers to the colours of your wedding for a cohesive look.

Use the different dreamcatchers to represent the different tables. Print the names of guests on small pieces of paper and tie them to the feathers. Hang the dreamcatchers on a frame, a tree branch, or from the ceiling at the entrance of your reception area. This whimsical setup is perfect for budding flower children or those trying to achieve a laid-back, boho feel.

23) Coconut shy

If you’re trying to impart all the fun of the fair onto your guests, a coconut shy wedding seating chart is a great idea. Plus, once guests have found their seats, it can form part of your afternoon entertainment!

You’ll need to set up your coconut shy using wooden crates, poles, and, of course, coconuts. Try painting the poles with bright colours to lean into the funfair vibe. Each box should have the table name or number written on them, and you can write the guests’ names on the coconuts using paint pens.

24) Keep it simple

If these examples seem a bit much, there’s nothing wrong with keeping things simple. You can have a pretty board or sign made at most printing shops, which will still look elegant and organised. All you’ll need is your wedding table names and a list of guests beneath them. You can have them decorated with your wedding colours, names, or pretty flowers to add interest. However, simplicity can be just as beautiful and effective.

25) Cherry blossom trees

A staple of wedding table decor, cherry blossom trees are a beautiful and eye-catching way to display your wedding seating plan. Have either fake or real potted cherry blossoms placed at the entrance of your wedding reception. Each tree should represent a different table, and you can hang your guests’ names from the branches. You could also add fairy lights, contrasting flowers, or small lanterns to enhance the look.

26) Envelope walls

Envelope walls are cute, colourful, and clearly show guests where they should be sitting. All you’ll need is a large board of canvas, a collection of colourful envelopes, and some slips with table numbers on them. Write your guests’ names on the envelopes and place the corresponding table number slips in the envelope. Trust us, it works better this way round, rather than table numbers on the envelope and names in the slips. This way, your guests will quickly and easily find their names, pull out the slip, and know exactly where to go.

27) Vintage postcards

If you’re a fan of the vintage aesthetic or want to add a touch of nostalgia to your wedding, using vintage postcards as your seating chart is a charming idea. Collect postcards from your favourite holiday locations, your home towns, or places that are special to you and your partner. Write the guests’ names and table numbers on the back of each postcard, then hang them up on a display board or clothes line to lean into the rustic feel. You can add extra travel-themed decor like mini globes, vintage suitcases, or old stamps to complete the look.

28) Constellation chart

For a truly out-of-this-world idea, why not use constellations for your seating chart? Perfect for stargazers or those with a love for the cosmos, this unique setup will have your guests starry-eyed. This one will take a little creativity, but it should be easy enough to create. You’ll need a large board, some dark blue paint, and metallic pens to create the constellations. Each constellation should represent a table, and the stars should be your guests. To enhance the cosmic theme, add small fairy lights around the board to mimic the stars. You can also sprinkle some glitter for extra sparkle and place telescopes or star charts nearby for decoration.

How to Create a Wedding Seating Plan: Etiquette & Top Tips

Creating a wedding seating plan may seem simple at first glance. But, then you remember Auntie Jane has fallen out with Uncle Jim, Cousin Louis has sprained his ankle in football training, and your uni mates are notorious for their loud banter. Suddenly, it seems like you need a degree in diplomacy to get everyone seated just right.

Don’t stress! Crafting the perfect seating arrangement is a blend of strategic planning and thoughtful consideration, and we’re here to guide you through. Here’s a handy post to help you navigate the process and ensure everyone enjoys their time at your wedding!

What is a wedding seating plan?

Photo © Emis Weddings | See their Bridebook profile

A wedding seating plan is a chart that explains where everyone will sit at a wedding reception. It’s usually presented on a board or frame near the entrance of the reception area and helps guests easily find their seats.

The seating plan should include table numbers, the layout of tables (including the top table), and the names of guests assigned to each table. Planning and presenting a wedding seating plan will help guests find their seats easily and make sure there are no hold ups to serving the wedding breakfast.

Try to be strategic in how you create your wedding seating plan. For example, there’s no point sitting two people that don’t get along next to each other — it’ll only make things awkward! Equally, sitting two very shy people next to each other isn’t a great idea either. Try mixing up the seating plans by balancing outgoing guests with quieter ones to keep conversations lively and comfortable.

There are a few things you need to consider before creating your perfect wedding seating plan. Here are three simple steps to tick off first.

An infographic titled "Before Creating Your Wedding Seating Plan" with three steps: 1. Create a guest list. 2. Determine your table sizes and shapes. 3. Gather DIY/crafting materials. The infographic has a white background and purple borders, with the Bridebook logo at the bottom.
Three simple steps before creating your wedding seating plan

1) Create a guest list

You’ll need a guest list of everyone you intend to invite before you begin planning your wedding seating plan. It’s best if people RSVP to the wedding first. However, if you’re starting early, creating a guest list will help you estimate the number of tables you’ll need and how you can group your wedding guests. For example, do you want to seat people by friendship groups, families, or have a complete mix?

2) Determine your table sizes and shapes

Table size and shape will play a big role in how you arrange your seating plan. Round tables encourage conversation among everyone at the table, while rectangular tables can accommodate more people and fit neatly into different spaces. Knowing your table dimensions will help you plan how many guests can comfortably sit at each table and how to arrange them in the venue.

You’ll also need to consider the size of your venue and the shape of the reception room. Make sure there’s enough space for guests to move around easily, especially for the hospitality team to serve and for people to get up and dance. You should also consider whether wheelchair users or disabled guests will be able to manoeuvre through the gaps. They may need a little more space than others, a clear path to the toilet, or other adjustments to their seating. Keep things inclusive by asking these guests what they need ahead of time and accommodating any adjustments.

The room layout should also take into account any focal points of the evening. For example, the dance floor, stage, or cake table. If you’re struggling to piece it together based on the shape of the room, reach out to the venue staff to see what they recommend or what other guests have done.

3) Gather DIY/crafting materials

There are a ton of different DIY wedding seating plans you can create, and it’s a good idea to gather your crafting materials before you start planning your seating plan. This will ensure you have everything you need on hand and can dive right into the creative process without any interruptions.

Think about grabbing some felt tips, sticky notes, and maybe even some pretty ribbons or stickers to add a personal touch. Having all your materials ready will make the whole process smoother and a lot more fun. If you’re looking for inspiration, check out our top wedding seating plan ideas

Ready to start your wedding table plan? Here’s a list of all the things you’ll need to consider. Follow our step-by-step guide below.

Infographic titled "6 Steps to Creating the Perfect Wedding Seating Plan": 1. Pick either a physical or digital seating plan. 2. Seat the top table, where the newlyweds and important wedding party members sit. 3. Keep your wedding party close. 4. Scatter single guests so no one feels isolated. 5. Consider a kids' table. 6. Create the rest of the tables, taking into account the available space. At the bottom is the Bridebook logo.
6 steps to creating the perfect wedding seating plan

1) Pick either a physical or digital seating plan

Wedding table planning can be either physical or digital.

  • If you prefer a physical planning tool, grab some poster board, sticky notes, and a few colourful markers. Using sticky notes means you can easily move guests around until you find the perfect arrangement. Plus, it’s a fun, hands-on way to visualise your seating plan.
  • If digital is more your style, you can create a simple spreadsheet. This method is great for making quick adjustments, sorting guests, and easily sharing the plan with others involved in the planning process. Plus, you can use different colours and tabs to organise groups and tables effectively.

2) Seat the top table first

We recommend you start with the top table when creating your wedding seating plan. The top table is the focal point of the wedding reception and is usually where the newlyweds, their families, and some of the wedding party sit. Top tables come in all shapes and sizes, so decide what arrangement works best for you. Whether it’s a long rectangular table, a sweetheart table, or even if you’d rather have a ‘musical chairs’ style top table, planning your top table first will give you a jumping off point for the rest of your tables.

3) Keep your wedding party close

Once you’ve determined who’s sitting at your top table, the second table you plan should be the wedding party. If you’re having a lot of bridesmaids and groomsmen, plus flower girls and a page boy, it may be difficult to sit them all at the top table. However, you should try to keep them close so they can easily fulfil their roles and be a part of the main action. Position their tables nearby so they can feel included and smooth things over as needed.

4) Scatter the single guests

If you aren’t extending ‘plus-ones’ to your single guests, it’s a good idea to scatter the singles throughout your wedding tables. It takes confidence to come to a wedding alone, and creating a singles table can make people feel isolated. Instead, mix them in with other guests where they can meet new people and be part of the fun.

5) Consider a kids’ table

Sitting all the kids together is a cute and practical idea. Try setting up a special kids’ table with colouring books, goody bags and sweet bowls, and serve kid-friendly food like pasta or chicken nuggets. This way, the little ones can enjoy themselves and make new friends while the parents relax. Plus, it helps keep the noise and chaos contained to one area, making it easier for everyone to have a good time.

6) Create the rest of the tables

Once you’ve planned your top table, wedding party, and decided how you’ll seat singles and kids, you can begin planning the rest of the tables.

It’s a good idea to group guests thoughtfully based on who gets along well and who might enjoy each other’s company. Think about common interests, friendships, and family connections. Try seating a few people from each group together to ensure people feel comfortable, and keep families and couples together wherever possible.

You should also try to balance the tables so there’s a good mix of personalities, which can lead to lively and enjoyable conversations. Sit shy people with kind, outgoing people to help bring them out of their shell, and seat the party animals together so they can enjoy themselves without overwhelming the quieter guests.

Equally, if there are any ongoing family feuds or current friendship fallouts, it’s best to seat them separately to avoid arguments.

Don’t forget these top tips when planning your wedding seating plan!

1) Use coloured Post-it notes

If you’re creating a physical wedding seating plan, using coloured Post-it notes can help you outline your seating plan before you commit it with markers. Assign different colours to various groups (such as family, friends, and work colleagues) to make it easy to see who’s sitting where and to move people around as needed.

2) Start early

As soon as you receive an RSVP, pop the guests on your table plan. You can, of course, move them around once you receive more RSVPs. However, putting guests on your table plan as soon as they’ve confirmed they’re coming will help you stay organised and reduce last minute stress.

3) Consider accessibility

Consider accessibility and the needs of your guests when planning your wedding seating plan. For example, don’t seat guests in a wheelchair all the way at the back, don’t seat those who wear hearing aids in the centre of a busy table, and seat parents within eyesight of the kids’ table for their peace of mind.

4) Be flexible

Fallouts happen, and last-minute changes are sometimes unavoidable. Be prepared to adjust your seating plan if necessary. Having a flexible mindset will help you handle any changes smoothly and make sure everyone is comfortable.

Frequently Asked Questions

1) Do you put surnames on a wedding seating plan?

You don’t have to, but it can help guests with common names differentiate between themselves and other guests. For example, if you have 3 Chloes attending, or 2 Jacks, including their surname can avoid confusion and ensure everyone finds their seat easily. It can also give an air of formality to your wedding seating plan, so go ahead and include them if you’re going for a high-brow affair.

2) Where do the bride and groom sit at a wedding reception?

The bride and groom typically sit on the top table during a wedding reception. However, the most important thing is that you do what feels right to you and your spouse. If that means sitting with all your guests to avoid FOMO — do it!

3) Do the parents of the bride and groom sit together?

The bride’s partners will usually sit at the top table next to the bride, while the groom’s parents will sit next to the groom. But, again, this is your day, and we appreciate that everyone’s family has a different dynamic. If your parents are divorced, have remarried, and you’d prefer to have your grandparents at the top table, that’s fine. Do whatever works for you on your special day!

4) Is there an app to create a guest list?

You can use our free Bridebook app to create a handy guest list for your wedding seating plan. It’s easy to add guests, plus-ones, and notes for each guest. You can also differentiate between day and night guests, as well as track RSVPs and meal choices. Sign up for free today!

What are traditional and modern gifts for a 19th wedding anniversary?

The traditional and modern 19th wedding anniversary gifts

Giving a traditional- or modern-inspired gift to mark a 19th wedding anniversary is a tradition that goes back more than 100 years. The gifts follow a set theme and are filled with romantic meaning and symbolism, which helps you tell your partner exactly how you feel. It also helps you think a little outside the box and give them a gift that you might not ordinarily consider, making your anniversary stand out from other times when you might buy them a gift.

Many anniversaries have two different types of gifts associated with each of the traditional and modern themes. But, when it comes to your 19th anniversary, both the traditional and modern themes are the same. This might mean you have a little less room for variety, but it doesn’t mean you can’t have fun and not use your creativity. Plus, the meaning behind the gifts is still as poignant and special.

Traditional 19th anniversary gift – Bronze

The traditional theme to mark 19 years of marriage is bronze. Bronze was also the traditional gift to give for your 8th anniversary, so if you’ve been following the anniversary themes for a while, you may very well have given them something made from bronze before. But, that was over a decade ago now, so there’s no reason why you can’t revisit the theme if that’s the case.

Bronze is a combination of copper and tin, which are both fairly weak when separate, but when together they’re incredibly strong. It’s a little like your relationship, with the two of you being far stronger together than when you’re apart. Bronze is also a really versatile metal (as well as a fabulous colour) which offers you plenty of room to find something your other half will love.

Modern 19th anniversary gift – Bronze

The modern 19th anniversary gift is also bronze. This does mean your choice is a little limited, but because the choice of bronze gifts is so huge, you really shouldn’t have too much trouble finding something that suits your partner’s tastes. Bronze gifts can also be fairly affordable, so the theme fits with a range of budgets.

19th anniversary gemstone – Aquamarine

The traditional gemstone to give to mark your 19th anniversary is aquamarine, a gorgeously soft shade of blue that evokes a calm spring morning or a still, tranquil ocean. Aquamarine represents serenity and clarity, which is perfect when celebrating 19 happy years, as it’s something you’re more than likely all too familiar with. It’s often a fairly affordable stone, making it a great choice of gift, but some rarer aquamarines can be rather pricey, so make sure you shop around if it’s something you think would suit your partner’s taste.

19th anniversary flower – Chrysanthemum

If your partner would love to receive something floral on your 19th anniversary, the traditional flower to mark the occasion is the chrysanthemum.

Chrysanthemums have big, colourful blooms that represent happiness and long life. They’re also commonly available at florists and come in a wide range of colours, so you’ll never have to look too far to find a beautiful bouquet of chrysanthemums.

How do you choose a gift for a 19th wedding anniversary?

You may already have something in mind for the perfect gift to give on your 20th wedding anniversary. But, with your 19th anniversary not too far away, you may be thinking long and hard about what you can do that will be equally as thoughtful and memorable. The traditional and modern themes lend themselves brilliantly to gifts, but it’s possible that you’ve never really put much thought into them. So how do you choose a gift to give for your 19th anniversary? Here are a few things to bear in mind when making your decision.

  • Is choosing a gift linked to the traditional or modern themes important to you? If so, the range of choice isn’t as wide as it is with previous anniversaries, but you can still have a lot of fun with bronze, chrysanthemums and aquamarine.
  • What sort of budget do you have in mind? Bronze is a great theme if you’re on a budget because a lot of bronze gifts are actually pretty affordable.
  • Are you keen to give your partner a personalised gift? Adding a custom touch to an item may be an important addition to an anniversary gift and thankfully, bronze is something that can be personalised rather easily.
  • What sort of gift would your partner love to receive? Because there isn’t quite as much choice of traditional and modern gifts with your 19th anniversary as there is with other anniversaries, it might be a little trickier finding something that aligns with the things they love.

Is a couple in your life about to celebrate their 19th anniversary? What an exciting time! As part of the upcoming celebrations, you might wonder whether or not you can join in with the traditional and modern gift-giving traditions and give them something linked to bronze, chrysanthemum or aquamarine. Of course you can! These themes aren’t exclusive to the couple, so if you have the perfect gift in mind, you should definitely treat the couple – it’ll let them know just how much they’re loved and they’ll appreciate the lovely sentiment behind it.

50 ideas for a 19th wedding anniversary gift

With your 19th anniversary on the horizon, you may be on the lookout for a gift you can give to your partner that will let them know how much they mean to you. Because the traditional and modern themes are the same, you don’t have as much choice as you do with other anniversaries, but don’t let that put you off – you can still find something amazing that they’ll love to receive.

If you’re keen to give your other half something that’s closely linked to the themes but you’re not exactly sure where to start, we’re here to help. Here are 50 19th anniversary gift ideas so you can surprise your love on the big day.

Because bronze isn’t a precious metal, it can be relatively easy to find a low-cost gift that still has that extra special meaning. So, here are five suggestions for affordable 19th anniversary gifts.

Do you feel like your partner has the only key to unlock your heart? If so, this bronze lock and key keyring set is a super meaningful token gift, as it helps you express how you feel and closely fits with the 19th anniversary themes. Your partner keeps one half and you keep the other, so you always have a subtle reminder of each other wherever you go.

3. A bronze old wren farthing gift bag

Back in the 30s, 40s and 50s, farthing coins were often made from bronze and had an adorable wren on one side and the king on the other. Give your partner a piece of the past with a bronze old wren farthing gift bag, which they can hold on to forever.

4. A bronze flower charm bracelet

When made from bronze, jewellery has a very vintage and retro feel to it. That includes this bronze flower charm bracelet, which has the feel of an antique piece of jewellery but without the enormous price tag.

5. An engraved bronze drinks stirrer

If your partner loves a cheeky cocktail or gin and tonic, an engraved personalised bronze drink stirrer is fun, affordable and will get a lot of use!

5 DIY gifts for a 19th wedding anniversary

Nothing says I love you quite like a gift you’ve made yourself. It shows how much thought and care you’ve put into your gift, especially if it’s something associated closely with the traditional or modern themes.

At first glance, you might think it’s impossible to make something out of bronze at home unless you have all the proper equipment. Well, bronze wire is incredibly cheap and a great material to use for arts and crafts! Here are five ideas if you’re looking to get hands-on and make your partner something unique.

1. DIY bronze wire art

Bronze wire can be used to make so many different things, including artwork. Basically, if you can imagine it, there’s a great chance you can make it. Check out this bronze wire art YouTube playlist for help and ideas for the sorts of art you can make using bronze wire.

2. DIY wire leaf earrings

Bronze wire has plenty more uses, and with little experience and only a few small tools, you can make some great DIY wire leaf earrings. Watch a simple jewellery video tutorial to find out everything you need to give it a go.

3. A crocheted chrysanthemum

Crochet is a pretty popular hobby these days, and if you have a crochet hook and some wool of your own, you can make some beautiful crocheted chrysanthemums that are as beautiful and bold as the real thing. Follow a video tutorial on the steps you need to take to make your own.

4. A DIY wire bracelet

Another great way to use bronze wire is by creating a DIY wire bracelet, which you can get really creative with and make a wide variety of designs. You do need a few tools, but you can create something really special. Watch a video tutorial for info on how to get started.

5. Bronze gild a photo frame

The art of gilding is adding decoration and protection to something using fine powder. This includes bronze, which you can use to gild anything from wooden photo frames to glass. You can pick up a gild set which has what you need to get started.

5 experience or activity gifts for a 19th wedding anniversary

Giving your partner a gift on your 19th anniversary is a gesture which they’ll definitely love and appreciate. But, to make your anniversary one they’re not likely to forget any time soon, you could treat them to an experience or activity. And, with a little creative thinking, you can make sure your anniversary activity fits with the traditional and modern theme. Here are five suggestions for what you and your other half could get up to on the big day.

1. A bronze crafting experience

Bronze casting is a super specialist skill and is something of a lost craft by today’s standards. Why not learn something new, and have a wonderful time together, by taking part in a weekend bronze casting experience? You’ll get hands-on and find all about what goes into this fantastic craft.

2. A bronze animal experience

This one definitely counts, even if the experience itself isn’t technically bronze-related. But, a bronze animal experience at New Forest Wildlife Park gives your other half the opportunity to get up close and personal with one of their favourite animals and a possible cuteness overload.

3. View Bronze Age artefacts at your local museum

The Bronze Age was more than 4,000 years ago and was named that way due to the people at the time discovering how bronze was such a valuable and versatile tool. There are loads of Bronze Age artefacts on display in museums around the country, so you could spend a day exploring history with the love of your life. Or, make a weekend of it and head to London to visit the British Museum!

4. Watch the Lionesses (and Lucy Bronze) play football

If you’re lucky enough that your anniversary takes place around the same time as an England Women’s international football match, you could take your other half to watch the Lionesses play. You may wonder how this is tied into the traditional and modern themes? Well, Lucy Bronze is a regular starter in the England team, of course!

5. A romantic bronze B&B getaway

There’s nothing quite like a romantic getaway where you and your partner can spend some quality time together. A bronze B&B gift experience gives you everything you need to have a romantic trip away.

18th Wedding Anniversary Gifts: 50 Anniversary Gift Ideas

Celebrating your 18th wedding anniversary is such an exciting time. It’s a wonderful milestone which means you’re also just two short years away from reaching 20 years of marriage. 18 is often seen as a lucky number, and if your marriage was a person, it would now legally be allowed to drink in the UK – incredible!

To celebrate this amazing stage in your marriage, it might be nice to treat your other half to a gift. But what sort of thing should you buy them now that your marriage is officially old enough to apply for a credit card? Well, did you know there’s a traditional and modern gift for celebrating your 18th anniversary, as well as a traditional gemstone and flower? It’s true, and it means by sticking to these unofficial rules, you bring your gift-giving skills to the next level thanks to the deep level of symbolism and meaning behind them.

Deciding the perfect gift can be tricky, so the traditional and modern gifts not only show how much you care, but can also make your decision so much easier.

In this post, we’re going to explore all the traditional and modern gift-giving traditions when it comes to your 18th wedding anniversary. We’ll also offer you 50 suggestions for gifts to give you a head start and find something your partner is bound to love.

For more information about the different anniversary gift-giving traditions from 1 to 90 years, read our complete year-by-year wedding anniversary gift guide.

What are traditional and modern gifts for an 18th wedding anniversary?

The traditional and modern 18th wedding anniversary gifts

Couples have been giving each other traditional gifts for their anniversary from as far back as the Victorian era, with modern gifts being created at the start of the 20th century. Now, couples can choose whether or not to give one or the other – or sometimes even both. Both traditional and modern gifts are filled with history and meaning, so which you give is entirely up to you.

For many different anniversaries, there are separate traditional and modern gifts. However, when it comes to your 18th anniversary, both the traditional and modern gifts are the same. This lessens the choice, but the meaning behind your gift is still so special.

Traditional 18th anniversary gift – Porcelain

The traditional 18th anniversary gift is porcelain, a type of ceramic made by potters and fired in a kiln to give it that shiny and luxurious finish. It represents how you’ve worked hard over the past 18 years to keep your marriage strong and how you need to continue preserving something beautiful and delicate into the future.

Porcelain is a versatile material and is used to make lots of different things, so despite its close link to expensive pottery, you shouldn’t actually have too much trouble finding something for your other half.

Modern 18th anniversary gift – Porcelain

The modern gift for your 18th anniversary is also porcelain, which means you don’t have quite as much variation when it comes to a gift. But, the meaning behind it is lovely, so even just a small token porcelain gift should be more than enough to get you in your partner’s good books.

18th anniversary gemstone – Cat’s eye

The traditional 18th anniversary gemstone is cat’s eye, which is the name given to a gemstone that has chatoyancy. A gemstone is chatoyant when it contains a band of reflected light, which gives it that distinct appearance reminiscent to a cat’s eye.

Genuine cat’s eyes are pretty rare, and the rarest chatoyant stones are incredibly expensive. But, thankfully, even if you have a smaller budget, you can find alternatives so you can still treat your partner something containing cat’s eye.

18th anniversary flower – Sunflower

The traditional flower for celebrating 18 years of marriage is the sunflower, which was also the traditional flower when you celebrated your 3rd wedding anniversary. Sunflowers are big and bold blooms that are one of the symbols of summer. They represent a long and happy life, which makes them the perfect gift for this special occasion.

How do you choose a gift for an 18th wedding anniversary?

Your 18th wedding anniversary is a big deal and you may struggle to figure out what to give your partner to mark this amazing occasion. Do you go for something simple but loving, like flowers, or traditional and packed with historical meaning? It’s not a necessarily obvious choice, and it can depend on different things. Here are several points to think about when choosing the perfect 18th anniversary gift:

  • Are you excited to stick to the traditional or modern gift themes? If so, you’ll want to make sure you choose something linked to one of the themes rather than go off-piste.
  • Do you have a set budget? Porcelain can be rather pricey, as can a high-quality and rare cat’s eye gemstone. Sunflowers are far more affordable but just as thoughtful, so this may be something to consider.
  • Is a personalised gift important to you? Many people love to give their partners a personalised gift to mark an anniversary, which is obviously easier to do with some gifts than others.
  • What kind of thing does your partner love? Even though it’s both the traditional and modern gift, porcelain is actually a fairly old-fashioned gift by today’s standards, so this might play a big part in your decision.

If a couple in your life will soon celebrate their 18th wedding anniversary, you might be on the hunt for the perfect gift to let them know how much you care. As part of that, you may wonder if you can give them a gift linked to the traditional and modern themes, or if it’s something only the couple should do. Well, the great news is, you’re more than welcome to join in on the fun! So, if you’d like to give the couple a gift linked to porcelain, sunflowers or cat’s eyes, then you absolutely should. They’d no doubt be hugely appreciative of such a thoughtful and generous gesture!

50 ideas for an 18th wedding anniversary gift

When it comes to your 18th anniversary, because the traditional and modern gift themes are the same, you don’t have quite as much choice as you did on other anniversaries. For example, on your 3rd anniversary you had a choice of five, but here you only have a choice of three.

Even so, that doesn’t mean there aren’t loads of options out there – you’ve faced a similar anniversary before, such as on your 10th anniversary

But, if you’re still not quite sure what sort of gift to treat your partner with to mark 18 years, we’re here to help. Below are 50 18th anniversary gift ideas so you can let your other half know just how much you love them.

20 traditional and modern gifts for an 18th wedding anniversary

With your 18th anniversary, because the traditional and modern gifts are the same, you do have a little less choice when it comes to finding something for your partner in the form of porcelain. But, that doesn’t mean you’ll struggle – porcelain is a type of ceramic that can be molded into a million and one things. That means, whatever your partner is into, you should still be able to find something in keeping with the theme. Here are 20 ideas to get you started on your hunt for something perfectly porcelain.

We bet there are some antique shops not too far from you, or you can browse sites like Selling Antiques to see what they have in stock.

5 affordable gifts for an 18th wedding anniversary

Porcelain can often be quite pricey, which means with a smaller budget it can be difficult to find your partner something that’s linked to the 18th anniversary themes. Difficult – but not impossible! With a little creative thinking, there are still ways to give your partner a gift closely linked to one of the 18th anniversary themes while also making sure you don’t spend too much. Here are five suggestions if you’re hoping to give a little token gift for the big day.

Here are five suggestions for DIY, on-theme 18th anniversary gifts.

10 18th anniversary gifts that contain cat’s eye

Jewellery and accessories always make for a beautiful and long-lasting gift that your partner can wear for all sorts of occasions. For your 18th wedding anniversary, the traditional gemstone is cat’s eye, a striking stone that is perfectly named as it often does look exactly like a cat’s eye. Many different types of gemstone can contain this amazing effect, but it is rare which means it can be tough to find a genuine cat’s eye. However, cat’s eye jewellery is out there, and here are 10 suggestions for jewellery containing this alluring gemstone:

  1. Earrings
  2. A ring
  3. A necklace
  4. A bracelet
  5. A broach
  6. A locket
  7. A watch

Some high street jewellers may have a small range of cat’s eye jewellery, or you can browse local jewellers to see if they have something for you to take a look at. At Bridebook, we work with a range of fabulous jewellers, so take a look and see if they have something your partner will love.

Meet the Wedding Venues Championing LGBTQ+ Inclusivity

As we once more celebrate Pride Month this June, it’s crucial to recognise the progress made by those wedding venues which continue to go the extra mile to create inclusive and welcoming spaces for couples of every sexual orientation and gender. To honour those who champion diversity and inclusion, we’ve compiled a list of our top LGBTQ+ wedding experts: venues which are proud to support and cater to every couple’s style and vision.

Championing inclusivity

At Glewstone Court Country House, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all couples is a priority. Joel, a member of the LGBTQ+ community himself, attests to the genuine commitment of the venue: “We take immense pride in fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all couples, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.”

Personal commitment

Reflecting on his experience, Joel highlights the venue’s genuine commitment to inclusivity. “They have always made me feel welcome and valued, and they have shown a willingness to learn and listen from me, allowing us to adapt our language and practices to be more inclusive and affirming to all couples.”

Celebrating diversity

From hosting numerous weddings for LGBTQ+ couples to participating in Pride events, Glewstone Court celebrates diversity to the very fullest. “From the moment couples walk through our doors, they are embraced for who they are, and their love story becomes our mission to celebrate.”

Inclusive facilities and language

Inclusivity is reflected in every aspect of this venue’s service. “We have ensured that all toilets in the building are unisex and can be used by all and ensure privacy when needed. We also ensure that all staff are aware to not assume gender of couples or wedding guests and they are inclusive and sensitive with their language. We make sure that all marketing materials, including websites, brochures and social media posts, feature diverse representation of LGBTQ+ couples. We also do not use old-fashioned language like ‘Bridal Suite’, and have adapted this to be called the ‘Honeymoon Suite’, which suits all adaptions.”

Celebrating pride

Pride Month is celebrated each year at Glewstone Court Country House with enthusiasm. “We celebrate Pride Month and ensure we have a dedicated post on our social media channels to celebrate.”

Staff training

Regular staff training ensures sensitivity and inclusivity. “We conduct role-playing exercises monthly, to help staff members practice interacting with LGBTQ+ couples in a sensitive and respectful manner. This is super helpful when conducting show rounds with potential couples to ensure we do not follow a script, and we adapt to each and every couple who comes through our doors.”

Acknowledging the ongoing journey

Joel acknowledges the ongoing journey towards complete inclusivity. “I do feel that we still have a long way to go, and we still see enquiries from same-sex couples who still ask if it would be okay to host a same-sex wedding at our venue. This makes us very sad, that some same-sex couples feel a need to ask this question. Of course, we make them feel comfortable and ensure they are looked after and reassure them that they do not have to ask this question. We have, however, seen more and more of an increase in same-sex/LGBTQ+ representation when conducting competitor analysis, which is also nice for me to see.”

Promoting universal LGBTQ+ inclusivity

Joel emphasises the importance of collective effort in promoting LGBTQ+ inclusivity. “I think the more everyone works together and promotes LGBTQ+ community on social media and on supplier/venue websites the better!”

Elms Barn

Championing inclusivity

Ruth from Elms Barn highlights the venue’s commitment to inclusivity, pointing out touches like, “couples entering at the same time from two sides of the ceremony space”, “sensitive language for persons of honour and best persons”, and “team members who are part of the LGBTQ+ community.” She sums it up beautifully: “Overall, we treat everyone the same, and if there are ever any special requests to help everyone feel included and special, we will deliver.”

Fostering representation

Ruth emphasises their efforts to reflect and include all types of couples, including featuring blog posts about same-sex couples and ensuring photos of the venue and couples cover all types of couples, “so everyone is reflected and included.”

Practising sensitivity

In their staff training, Ruth explains that discussions are regularly held on sensitive language, and that she herself makes notes on all running orders where there are people with specific pronoun preferences, “to make sure everyone is actively aware of the language they should be using.”

Celebrating all love equally

Ruth believes that there should be no difference between an LGBTQ+ wedding and any other wedding: “In the past, I have found staff and management could be on edge and try too hard to include couples, which actually makes things awkward and forced. Now, anyone can love anyone, and we don’t need to think of any wedding as anything other than a magical day which the couple has designed in a way that is best for them and their guests.”

Bespoke celebrations

Elms Barn is proud to create every wedding completely bespoke for each couple. Ruth explains that they “have had everything from rainbow wedding cakes to very understated LGBTQ+ weddings, and that when planning each celebration, they will “listen to that couple to see where on that spectrum they fit best.”

Year-round visibility

Ruth ensures that the exposure is there for all LGBTQ+ weddings throughout the year, not just “as a Pride gimmick”, a point we agree is super important to highlight. She also refers to “a few photographers I always recommend to LGBTQ+ couples, as I know they make everyone feel so comfortable regardless.”

Championing inclusivity

Another steadfast advocate for inclusivity is Chris from The Old Mill (Aldermaston). Reflecting on their journey, Chris shares, “We are proud to have celebrated and hosted a variety of LGBTQ+ weddings, and have built a team that is LGBTQ+ inclusive, all of whom are key members of our business. We have always welcomed diversity and will continue to do so.”

Embracing uniqueness

Championing inclusivity

At Andaz London Liverpool Street Hotel, a concept by Hyatt, creating a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone is more than just a concept; it’s a whole ethos. Jad, the Marketing Community Manager, explains, “We understand the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community, and strive to foster a safe and comfortable environment where everyone feels welcome to be themselves.”

A decade of inclusivity

Jad shares the venue’s commitment to making every wedding special, including those of LGBTQ+ couples specifically. “For a decade, our 1901 ballroom, and other stunning venues, have been a popular location for LGBTQ+ weddings. They are the perfect place to celebrate your special day with loved ones.”

Pre-wedding inclusivity

Andaz London takes great pride in offering inclusive pre-wedding celebrations.  From engagement party themes which celebrate unique love stories to non-traditional vows and modern procession alternatives, they provide resources and support to craft personalised ceremonies which “reflect each couple’s journey”.

Personalised planning

Their personalised wedding planners ensure that every detail is tailored to the couple’s preferences. Jad gives the following initiatives as examples: “We offer inclusive language, music which reflects your taste, and partner with LGBTQ+ vendors who understand and celebrate LGBTQ+ weddings.”

Year-round allyship

As an ally to the LGBTQ+ community, Andaz London’s efforts go beyond wedding celebrations. Jad explains, “Our staff undergo regular diversity and inclusion training to provide a welcoming and inclusive service to all guests. We also partner with LGBTQ+ organisations, participate in Pride Month festivities, and donate to charities which support the LGBTQ+ community.” He also mentions a recent ad campaign celebrating LGBTQ+ weddings at the venue, and highlights their collaboration with LGBTQ+ vendors like The House of Toby.

Celebrating milestones

Jad adds, “This year marks a decade of marriage equality, and we’re thrilled to celebrate this milestone alongside our LGBTQ+ colleagues! We’ve been honoured to be a part of countless couples’ journeys, and we recognise there’s always room to grow. At Andaz London, we believe love knows no bounds. We’re committed to being a part of positive change and fostering an inclusive space for everyone.”

Championing inclusivity

Delamere Manor is all about championing year-round inclusivity, with their Marketing Manager, Jess, commenting, “Delamere Manor proudly supports the LGBTQ+ community. We believe in love without boundaries and welcome all couples to celebrate their marriage at Delamere Manor.”

Creating a welcoming space

She highlights the efforts to ensure every wedding reflects love, acceptance and inclusion. “Our team is dedicated to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for all couples to create cherished memories that last a lifetime.”

Prioritising tailored wedding packages

Delamere Manor offers inclusive wedding packages tailored to the diverse needs and preferences of LGBTQ+ couples: “We provide options for same-sex ceremonies, gender-neutral language in wedding materials, and flexibility in venue setup to accommodate various wedding traditions.”

Fostering sensitivity and inclusivity

Jess emphasises, “Our supportive staff receive comprehensive training to ensure they are knowledgeable and sensitive to the needs of LGBTQ+ couples. This includes training on pronoun usage, understanding diverse family structures, and creating a welcoming environment for all guests.”

Collaboration with LGBTQ+ businesses

They are also firm believers in collaborating with LGBTQ+ owned businesses and vendors to offer diverse services for wedding couples, which includes photographers, florists, entertainers and wedding planners.

Year-round representation

Beyond weddings, Delamere Manor hosts inclusive events throughout the year, including annual Christmas Fairs, dedicated parties and fabulous Tribute Nights. They’re also committed to showcasing LGBTQ+ representation in their marketing materials, social media campaigns and other promotional efforts.

Societal attitudes and progress

Regarding societal attitudes towards LGBTQ+ weddings, Jess reflects, “Society’s attitudes towards LGBTQ+ weddings have evolved significantly, reflecting broader shifts in cultural norms, legal recognition and social acceptance.”

Acknowledging the journey ahead

While acknowledging the progress made, Jess admits that there is nonetheless “still a long way to go,” emphasising the importance of creating more safe and inclusive spaces where LGBTQ+ couples feel welcome, respected and valued. “This involves actively seeking feedback, being open to learning, and continually striving to improve and evolve in supporting the LGBTQ+ community.”

Championing inclusivity

Katie, Wedding Department Manager at The Coniston Hotel Country Estate & Spa, shares their approach to LGBTQ+ weddings, having herself trained as an Independent Professional Celebrant “to ensure couples can have a ceremony that reflects and celebrates their same-sex relationship.”

Personalised ceremonies

She highlights the venue’s inclusive touches, which comprise “offering in-house celebrancy so we can personalise ceremonies and include rituals such as handfasting or a unity sand ceremony, where coloured sands are blended reflecting the couple and/or their family, friends and supporters.”

Visibility and year-round support

In terms of visibility and support, Katie explains that they will fly the Pride Flag on their flagpole at the front of the hotel during June. Yet beyond Pride Month, their brochures feature same-sex couples, their banners show their diverse customer base, and they intend to attend or exhibit at LGBTQ+ and Pride festivals and celebrations throughout the year. “We are a safe place,” Jess insists, “and a large number of our staff have attended workshops on inclusivity.”

Evolving attitudes/change for the better

Reflecting on societal attitudes, Katie acknowledges, “I think attitudes have changed, are still changing, and will continue to change for the better.”

Prioritising tailored wedding packages

When asked about adapting weddings for LGBTQ+ couples, Katie emphasises that all their weddings are tailored to the individual couples where desired: “We adapt them wherever possible. For example, one couple has asked if they can provide alternative door signage for the toilets.”

Advocating for kindness and mutual respect

In conclusion, Katie advocates for kindness and respect generally: “All couples deserve to be treated with kindness and respect, irrespective of their sexual orientation. Celebrate the love and provide a bespoke wedding for each couple!” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves here at Bridebook.

Championing inclusivity in weddings

As we’ve highlighted these venues and their incredible efforts, it’s clear that they’ve gone above and beyond to create inclusive and welcoming spaces for couples of every sexual orientation and gender. These venues reveal an unwavering commitment to creating joyful and personalised wedding experiences for all couples – not just for Pride Month specifically, but for all time.

With vibrant celebrations of love and inclusivity, venues like these pave the way for a more diverse and welcoming wedding industry. As we reflect on the journey and efforts so far, we’re one step closer to creating a world where every couple feels celebrated, respected and valued on their special day.

The Top Table: Who Sits Where at a Wedding?

When it comes to wedding receptions, the top table is the star of the show. It’s the front and centre stage where the most important people in your life will share in the joy of your special day.

Traditionally, the bride, groom, bride’s parents, groom’s parents, the best man, and the maid of honour sit at the top table. The bride and groom sit in the middle, their respective best man and maid of honour sit next to them, and then the parents sit next to them.

But who says we have to stick to tradition? Keep reading for a comprehensive guide to who sits where at the wedding top table, including 11 ideas for non-traditional wedding top table layouts.

What is a top table at a wedding?

Photo © Ink and Alder | See their Bridebook profile

The top table at a wedding is the main table at the wedding reception. This is where the bride and groom sit along with their closest family and friends. It’s usually positioned in a prominent location so that everyone can see the happy couple and their nearest and dearest.

Wedding top tables can be any shape and size. There are traditional seating patterns for wedding top tables. But, it’s your special day, and the most important thing is that you have those around you whom you love and trust the most. So, pick whoever you want to sit at the top table and follow an arrangement that feels right for you.

Traditionally, the bride, groom, bride’s parents, groom’s parents, the best man, and the maid of honour sit at the top table at a wedding. The bride and groom sit in the middle, their respective best man and maid of honour sit next to them, and then the parents sit next to them, often in the following order:

  • On the bride’s side: maid of honour, bride’s mum, bride’s dad, or any other gendered parent.
  • On the groom’s side: best man, groom’s mum, groom’s dad, or any other gendered parent.

Alternatively, sometimes the traditional wedding table order might alternate the respective relations of the bride and groom as follows:

  • On the bride’s side: best man, groom’s mum, bride’s dad, or any other gendered parent.
  • On the groom’s side: maid of honour, groom’s dad, bride’s mum, or any other gendered parent.

Whatever arrangement your decide, this is your big day, and you can ask anyone you’d like to sit at the top table with you. Some people only want their besties by their side, while others prefer the company of siblings. Whatever you choose, your happiness is what matters most.

It’s also important to note that this is only the traditional arrangement. In these progressive times, modern couples are rewriting the rules to better reflect their personal identities and values. Each couple may have their own unique arrangement, especially for LGBTQ+ couples or those who wish to embrace gender-neutral or inclusive practices.

11 traditional and creative wedding top table plans

Looking for some more unusual top table seating plans? Check out these 11 top table seating arrangements to help you get started.

1) Traditional top table layout

A beautifully decorated wedding table adorned with white drapes and illuminated with small lights. The table is set with plates of food, drinks, and napkin holders, with high, white cushioned chairs behind it. The background features soft, glowing curtains.

The traditional top table layout is where the bride and groom sit in the middle of the table and their nearest and dearest surround them in a specific order,

As above, the best man and maid of honour sit next to the bride and groom, followed by their respective parents. This layout puts the couple at the heart of the celebration, flanked by those who have supported them the most.

2) Sweetheart top table layout

An elegantly decorated sweetheart table with a white tablecloth is set up in a luxurious venue. The table features floral arrangements, greenery, and a "Mr & Mrs" sign. In the background, there are mirrors, chandeliers, and wall sconces adding to the sophisticated ambiance.

If you’re looking for something a little more intimate, the sweetheart wedding table is the perfect choice.

The sweetheart wedding table is a table for just the bride and groom. There are no distractions, no chattering family — just you and your new spouse sharing this magical moment.

3) Wedding party top table layout

A large group of people seated at a long, outdoor dining table adorned with colorful flowers and tableware, raising their glasses in a celebratory toast. The setting is surrounded by trees, creating a festive and enchanting atmosphere.

If you’d rather bring the party to the top table, consider having your parents sit at a table designated for the family and invite your whole wedding party to sit at the top table. Friends are the family you choose, after all!

You may want to have your maid of honour and best man sat next to you, for the sake of tradition. Alternatively, mix it up and intersperse your bridesmaids and groomsmen along the table, creating a lively and dynamic atmosphere. This layout allows you to be surrounded by your closest friends, ensuring a fun and celebratory vibe at the heart of the reception.

4) Cuties only top table layout

Three young children are seated at a table during a formal wedding event. The children are engaged with colorful toys and a few snacks. The child on the left is wearing a vest and looking to the side, while the other two children focus on their toys.

Hold up, hold up — cuties only at this table, please!

This table has the flower girls and page boys sitting at the top table with you. If your kids are involved in your wedding, you have a niece or nephew you’re especially close to, or simply just want to give them a lasting memory, this is the perfect layout.

Imagine their little faces lighting up when they realise they get to sit with the newlyweds! Not only does this make the day extra special for them, but it also adds an adorable touch to your reception.

5) For the speeches

A group of people are seated around a decorated table on a boat. The table has food, flowers, and drinks. A man in a white shirt is standing, speaking while raising a glass, with balloons in the background. The setting is bright and festive with a seaside view.

Keep things practical and only have people seated at the top table who are making a wedding speech. This gives you flexibility over who sits with you and ensures those delivering speeches are easily accessible. Plus, it can streamline the reception and keep everyone’s attention focused where it needs to be during those heartfelt moments.

6) Keep it old-school

A bride and an older woman, possibly her mother or grandmother, share a tender moment. Both are seated and leaning their heads together with their eyes closed, smiling. The bride wears a white dress, veil, and pearls, while the older woman wears a light-coloured dress.

Invite your grandparents to sit at your top table and share the magical memories for your special day with them. This layout honours their place in your life and adds a touch of nostalgia and warmth to the celebration. Plus, the photos will be adorable.

7) Nearest and dearest

Invite your mum, dad, favourite cousin, or best uncle to sit at the top table with you and revel in the support of your nearest and dearest.

We know a traditional top table will be heavily family-dominated. But, incorporating the family members who mean the most to you will not only honour the role they’ve played in your life, but  also create a warm, intimate, and unique atmosphere at the heart of your reception.

8) Siblings only table

A bride in a white wedding dress and veil is sitting on an ornate couch with a bouquet of orange flowers beside her. Two women in blue dresses stand beside her, one with her hands on the bride’s shoulder, all smiling and looking joyful.

They’ve been your best friend since day one, they know you better than anyone else, and they loved you even during those awkward teenage years. Why wouldn’t you want these special people at your top table? We’re talking about siblings.

Of course, we respect that everyone has a different relationship with their siblings. But, if your brothers and/or sisters have been your confidants, cheerleaders, and partners in crime, having a siblings-only top table could be the perfect way to honour those unique bonds.

9) Best friends for life

A joyful bride and her three bridesmaids sit laughing and smiling on a wooden deck by the ocean. The bride holds a drink and one bridesmaid playfully lifts her leg, while another holds a bouquet of flowers. They are all dressed in light-coloured gowns.

Invite your besties to share the special memories and sit at the top table with you and your new spouse. If you have multiple best men or maids of honour, or simply couldn’t imagine your day without your besties by your side, consider opting for this fun and unusual top table layout.

10) Musical chairs

Aerial view of a group of people seated at a long outdoor table, sharing a meal. The table is set with plates, cutlery, various dishes, and flowers. The gathering takes place on a grassy lawn, with sunlight casting shadows around the scene.

If you don’t love the idea of a top table but still want to enjoy the company of your closest friends and family throughout the reception, consider a ‘musical chairs’ approach.

With this setup, you and your spouse move around to different tables during the meal, spending time with various groups of guests. This way, you can personally connect with more people and ensure everyone feels included in your special day.

Have a few extra, empty seats set up at each wedding table and then make your way around each table during the wedding reception. You and your new spouse could either go together, or tag team to make sure you hit every table. If you’d prefer the second option, try to carve out a little time in the middle with them to ensure you don’t miss out on their company during your wedding reception.

Pro tip: You’ll need to clear this one with your caterers and wedding venue. As much as we’re sure they’d be happy to accommodate, it’s best to give them the heads up so they aren’t chasing you around with your beef wellington!

11) No top table/inclusive seating arrangement

A joyful outdoor wedding celebration with guests dancing and clapping. The bride, in a white dress and floral headpiece, dances with a young child in her arms. The sun sets in the background, casting a warm glow over the festive scene.

FOMO got you down? Skip the top table altogether and opt for a more inclusive seating arrangement where you and your new spouse can mingle freely with your guests. We recommend having designated seats on specific wedding tables, but leaving plenty of time between wedding breakfast courses to ensure you can mingle around the room and spend time with your guests.

This ‘top table seating arrangement’ encourages a more relaxed and interactive atmosphere, allowing you to connect personally with more people throughout the celebration.

The bottom line on top table setting plans

Photo © Emily K Weddings | See their Bridebook profile

The top table of a wedding reception is the focal point of the celebration. It’s where the most important people in your life gather to share in your joy, and usually includes the bride, groom, both of your parents, the best man, and the maid of honour. However, there’s no need to stick strictly to tradition if you’d prefer something more fun or unusual.

From intimate sweetheart tables to adorable cutie pie tables for the little ones, there are countless ways to make your top table uniquely yours. If you’re looking for flexibility, consider seating only those giving speeches at the top table, or if you want to keep it old-school and sentimental, invite your grandparents to share in the magic of the day.

Whatever you choose to do, the most important thing is that your top table reflects your personality, relationships, and includes those who have supported and continue to support you most. Incorporate your nearest and dearest into your wedding reception and you’re sure to have a day filled with laughs and happy memories.

I’m Laura, and I’m a queer and inclusive wedding photographer based in Cheshire. I got engaged to my wonderful partner Soph in December 2023, and am currently fully immersed in my own wedding planning! I’ve always focused my business on being inclusive, providing a safe space for queer people to be themselves free of judgements or assumptions, and this has only become more important to me since planning my own wedding.

Planning a wedding is a big undertaking for any couple: alongside all the joy and excitement are a whole raft of decisions to make, suppliers to book and tasks to tick off! With the wedding industry being largely focused on straight cisgender people, this process can be especially daunting for queer people. In my experience (and that of many of my queer couples), when people hear the word ‘wedding’, they automatically assume that it’s a heterosexual wedding. Whilst as queer people most of us experience this sort of assumption on a regular basis throughout our lives, it can be particularly challenging during such a sensitive, vulnerable, and personal time as planning your wedding.

Information and resources for queer couples are becoming easier to come by, but this area is arguably still lagging a fair way behind. Some might say that we shouldn’t need separate guidance or advice at all and that we should stop talking about the differences between cis-het and queer weddings, and so many queer couples have a positive, affirming wedding experience; but the reality is that queer people do often come up against additional challenges when planning their big day. In this article, I hope to provide a bit of information and some helpful tips to make that planning process a little smoother!

It’s important at this point to address the fact that there is no single queer experience, and no single wedding planning experience. I spend a lot of my life immersed in the wedding industry and know a fair bit about how it all works; however, that’s still just my perspective. Much of this article will also apply to queer and cis-het couples alike – we all move through the wedding planning process in our own way, every wedding is unique and there are no right or wrong answers.

Anyway, enough preamble – onto the useful stuff!

1) Beware tips and advice

Okay, this one might be a bit of a strange one to start with but bear with me. Anyone who is planning or has planned a wedding knows that unsolicited wedding advice is lurking around every corner, and it can be incredibly overwhelming knowing what you want to do with everyone and their dog sticking their two pence in. Unfortunately, there can also be those people who just don’t want to accept or understand the things that are important to you and who do not have your best interests at heart. Add to that the fact that the majority of online resources are cis-het focused, and your efforts to find useful advice and guidance can have you in a sweat in ten seconds flat.

At the end of the day, the only person who knows what’s best for you, is you. By all means, make those Pinterest boards, save inspo pics and ask your friends and family for help when you’re making decisions, but just remember that everyone views a wedding through their own lens. Your wedding day is about you, and ultimately, what you say goes!

2) Give yourself plenty of time to plan

Planning a wedding can throw up some big questions, not just about table plans and décor options, but about who you are, how you see yourself and what a wedding means to you. You’re likely to have different perspectives and opinions on things, so prioritise communication and make space to discuss each person’s priorities openly and without judgement. Forget everything you think you know about weddings; go through each element individually and establish how you as a couple relate to each element. There are no rules!

3) Think carefully about your guest list

I think anyone who has planned a wedding has found the guest list to be a point of contention at some point throughout the process! Whether it’s minimum or maximum numbers for your chosen venue, cost per head for the wedding breakfast or debates about plus ones, crafting your perfect guest list can be a challenge. Keep communication open and honest with your partner about guest list priorities and who each of you feels comfortable inviting to share your day with you.

It would also feel remiss of me not to mention negative reactions from friends, families and acquaintances at this point. Sending wedding invites can be a really vulnerable process, especially for queer couples. Not everyone is accepting of queer marriage, and the invite process can often bring homophobia into the light. One of my couples experienced several invite rejections from extended family members due to them ‘politely accepting our relationship but choosing not to attend because it is a queer wedding’.

You may not be able to change people’s views, but you can decide who to invite to your wedding. Protect yourself from negativity and keep yourself safe wherever possible.

4) Approach traditions with caution

Wedding traditions are so hard-wired into many of us that it can be hard to think outside of the box when it comes to your own plans. Telly, films and the world around us have shaped our idea of what a wedding is ‘supposed’ to look like, and queer people are very rarely reflected within this. Your wedding is a celebration of you, and you can do as you please regardless of what’s ‘usually’ done.

There is also a lot of history attached to wedding traditions. Some good examples…

  • In the Western world, a bride wearing white symbolised purity and virginity.
  • Some say that bridesmaids come from a time when brides were seen as property to be kidnapped, stolen or killed by rivals, whilst others say it was to confuse evil spirits so they wouldn’t attack the bride.
  • A bride being given away by her father used to signify a transfer of ownership from one man to another.
  • Getting married in a church isn’t an option for the vast majority of queer people (on that note, if you’re looking for some inspiration for non-traditional wedding venues, check out this stunning styled shoot in Manchester City Centre).

You get the gist – these traditions are all but meaningless in the modern world whether you’re queer or not, yet they’re so often followed unquestioningly.

That said, just because you’re planning a queer wedding doesn’t mean you have to do away with tradition entirely. If a tradition feels good for you, run with it! Just don’t feel pressured to do something that is at odds with your morals, relationship, or plain common sense just because tradition told you to.

When I think of a queer wedding that was the perfect blend of tradition, modernity and queer joy, I think of Jon and Jay. Check out their dreamy Cheshire wedding here.

5) Consider rethinking your wedding terminology

The possibilities here are endless. If you’re feeling a disconnect with traditional wedding terminology, why not come up with your own alternatives? In my experience I’ve come across alternatives such as ‘marriers’ instead of ‘couple’ (after all, not all marriages include a bride and/or groom and not all marriages consist of two people); ‘bests’ instead of bridesmaids and groomsmen; and a whole host of other terminology tweaks which have made peoples’ wedding days feel more ‘them’.

If you do decide to use alternative terms during your wedding planning and big day, consider sharing these with your suppliers and loved ones if you feel safe and comfortable doing so. As a supplier, I always do my best to use whichever terms, words and phrases make my couples feel most comfortable, and those who love and care for you should make an effort to do the same.

Which leads me neatly onto…

6) Choose wedding suppliers who align with your values and vision

There are so many incredible queer and inclusive suppliers out there! From venues to florists to ateliers to DJs, queer people and allies are everywhere and the wedding industry is no exception. Each individual supplier will contribute to the feel of your wedding day and your overall experience, so it makes sense to have a think about what’s important to you and book people who align with this.

I’ve met couples who have proudly planned their wedding using exclusively queer vendors, whereas for other couples this is much less of a priority. Not all queer vendors will include their sexuality on their websites, and not all allies will shout about it over socials. That doesn’t mean that they won’t provide a fantastic, safe and inclusive experience for you on your wedding day. Often, we just get a ‘feel’ for people and that will be different for everyone, so I’d recommend doing your research, having a good chat with suppliers before booking to make sure you feel comfortable with them, and going with your heart.

It can feel intimidating knowing where to start when it comes to booking suppliers, but there are lots of brilliant directories out there which provide a great starting point, including some fantastic queer-specific ones and, of course, Bridebook!

7) Give yourself permission to wear whatever makes you happy

“Well, you’re both brides so of course you’ll both wear a dress” – an actual thing an actual person said to my partner and I about our wedding. Gender expectations around attire is by no means limited to queer weddings, but it’s the type of comment that a lot of us hear during planning.

The way we choose to present ourselves to the world is an incredibly personal choice, and it’s so important that on your wedding day you can wear something that feels good, feels affirming and feels you. Some of us instinctively know from the offset what we want to wear (I always knew it was going to be a dress for me), but others don’t have that same certainty. The heavy stereotypes around wedding clothing can also bring up some complicated feelings and emotions, so give yourself plenty of time to plan your outfit so you can navigate these moments without looming time pressures.

If traditional wedding clothing isn’t hitting the spot for you, try thinking outside the box:

  • Would you feel comfortable moving away from ‘traditional’ wedding colours? What colours do you love? (Enter past bride El’s pink suit of dreams – check it out here).
  • What clothes do you already own that make you feel great? Is there a version of this that you’d feel comfortable wearing on your wedding day?
  • Consider shopping in less traditionally wedding-y places, such as high street stores, charity shops and eBay/Vinted.
  • Whilst this may not be an option that is financially viable to all, you might consider having an outfit custom-made, giving you total freedom over what you want to create.
  • It’s also worth doing a bit of an audit of your friends and family’s skillsets – you might already know someone who can put together the wedding outfit of your dreams!

One of my 2024 couples is the perfect example of doing-what-works-for-you – they’ve made their own dresses, neither are wearing white and they’ve shared every step of the creation process. The result is two very happy brides with completely custom outfits which are going to make them feel absolutely incredible on the day! Nobody should have to compromise on that kind of feeling.

8) Choose your shopping experience wisely

There are expectations at literally every turn when you’re planning a wedding, and shopping for your wedding outfit is no exception (especially for brides). I know when I was shopping for my wedding dress, I felt a bit paralysed by how to go about it, especially as I wasn’t planning to have a traditional bridal party – who was I supposed to invite? Would my mum be hurt if I didn’t ask her to go with me? What if I loved something, but didn’t get the reaction I wanted from the people who were with me? Did it all have to be such a big deal?

In the end, the appointments where I felt most comfortable were the ones I went to on my own. For some of them, I didn’t even tell anyone I was going. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, cut the noise and consider shopping alone, or carefully choose the person that you feel is going to give you what you need during that experience. Also, if in-person shopping gives you the ick, start your research online and create a focused shortlist of places that feel safe and comfortable for you to visit.

9) Think flexibly about hen/stag celebrations

Another area of wedding planning that is rife with traditions and expectations is hen and stag celebrations, and these expectations are also heavily gendered. This may mean that some queer couples feel a significant disconnect with the idea of a hen or stag do – Soph and I definitely did! It’s fair to say that these kinds of celebrations aren’t for everyone no matter what kind of couple you are, but if you do want to celebrate with loved ones without the heavily gendered traditions, here is a reminder that your hen or stag do can look however you want it to. Consider having a joint celebration, invite anyone you want regardless of gender, call it by a different name if hen or stag doesn’t feel like a good fit, steer clear of gendered gimmicks… or don’t have one at all if you don’t want to!

10) Do your research around honeymoon destinations

For many queer people, checking how safe and accepted we’ll be in any given destination is a standard part of planning any holiday. This becomes even more important during honeymoon planning, as more couples consider far-flung destinations where legality and culture can vary significantly to countries closer to home. In some popular honeymoon destinations, such as the Caribbean and the Maldives, homosexuality is still illegal; other countries have relaxed their laws around homosexuality in recent years, but local culture is still not welcoming to queer people and therefore visiting may not be safe.

There are many wonderful honeymoon destinations where queer people are welcomed with open arms including most parts of Greece, Thailand and Italy, so there are still great options out there – just make sure you do your research before you book.

11) Do whatever you want

I guess this really just sums up the whole article. Ultimately, your wedding is your day and how it plays out is your choice. If something works for you, do it. If it doesn’t, don’t! By all means, ask those you trust for advice and support where needed and utilise the enormous raft of general wedding-related information and inspiration available online, but just be sure not to lose sight of the most important thing – you!

If you’re looking for a bit more queer wedding inspiration or information, I’ve got a few more blogs over on my website that you might find interesting:

A huge thank you to Pippa Volans, Esme Whiteside, Kieran Bellis, my couples and my loved ones who generously shared their thoughts, feelings and experiences to help me write this article.

You’ve planned your menu, completed your table centrepieces, and sorted your place cards. There’s just one thing left to do — name your tables!

Naming your wedding tables may seem like a small detail, but it can have a big impact on the overall theme and feel of your wedding reception. Of course, you can just number your wedding tables, but where’s the fun in that?

If you’re struggling to name your wedding tables, don’t stress. We’re here to help! We’ve compiled a list of the 60 best wedding table name ideas to get your creative juices flowing and spark your imagination. From nature-inspired themes to nods to your favourite movies, there’s something for every couple.

So, whether you’re dreaming of romantic beaches, enchanted forests, or vintage classics, you’ll find the perfect table names to suit your style. Let’s get started and explore the best names for your wedding reception tables!

What are wedding table names?

Wedding table names are the names you give to your wedding tables to differentiate them and add a personal touch to your reception decor. They can help your guests find their seats more easily, help your serving staff work efficiently, and add a fun touch to the overall ambience.

Naming your wedding tables after a theme gives a feeling of cohesion to the wedding reception, and if it fits in with your wedding theme then all the better! You can name your wedding tables after your favourite beaches, with inside jokes from your favourite film franchise, or even after the flowers in your wedding bouquet. The only limit to naming wedding tables is your imagination.

We recommend naming your wedding tables after places, films, or songs that are significant to you and your partner. If creativity and meaning are important to you, don’t pick a name just because it sounds good, or use something generic like numbers. This is your chance to pick a beautiful and personal name for each table that will add to the vibe and ambience of your big day.

What should you name the top table at a  wedding?

The top table is traditionally the table where the bride and groom sit, so it’s natural that you should give this table your favourite wedding table name.

How can you make table names for a wedding?

You can easily make your own wedding table names out of materials that fit your wedding theme, such as wooden signs, chalkboards, or elegant cardstock. You can also get creative with calligraphy, printed designs, or even unique objects that represent each table name.

Your wedding table name should sit in the middle of the rest of your wedding table decor or near your centrepieces.  Just make sure that the names are clearly visible and easy for guests to find their seats.

Alternatively, for a professional touch, consider working with an experienced stationer or designer, who can help you bring your table name ideas to life!

Nature-themed wedding table names

  1. The four seasons. If you only have four tables, consider naming your tables after the 4 seasons. You could even theme your wedding centrepieces and table decor around these names to really drive home the theme.
  2. Flowers. Consider naming your tables after your favourite blooms. Whether it’s roses, daisies, orchids, or Britain’s beautiful wildflowers, you’ll be hard-pressed to run out of table names if you name them after flowers.
  3. Seas and oceans. If you have less than 7 tables and are looking for a nautical theme, consider naming your tables after one of the 7 seas. Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, Southern, Mediterranean, and Caribbean – each table named after one of these majestic bodies of water will transport your guests to far-off shores and infuse your reception with maritime charm.
  4. Constellations. If you love stars, the night sky, or astronomy, consider naming your wedding tables after some well-known stars and constellations. Whether it’s Carina, Orion, Lyra, or Ursa Major, the sky’s the limit with this creative naming framework.
  5. Hills and mountains. You could either name your tables after the UK’s famous mountains and hills, or go further afield and name them after mountains from around the world. Think Ben Nevis, Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), and Scafell Pike. Alternatively, use Mt. Everest, Mt. Kilimanjaro, or the Himalayas.
  6. Trees and forests. There are an abundance of natural forests and trees in the UK you could name your tables after. If you prefer the idea of using trees, try Oak, Sycamore, or Maple. If you’d like to use forests, try the New Forest, Sherwood Forest, or the Forest of Dean.

  6. Famous streets. If you like the idea of using location-themed wedding table names, but don’t feel especially attached to any place, famous street names are a great option. You could use Penny Lane, Broadway, Abbey Road, or Champs-Élysées depending on the vibe you’re trying to create.
