As a Husband and Wife wedding photography duo, The Springles understand your wedding day from both sides of the camera. Their truly heartfelt approach captures each wedding day authentically, creating absolutely beautiful, natural photographs. Both talented wedding photographers in their own right, their work blends their individual professional skill with their unique synergy as a married couple. With this distinctive approach in mind, Bridebook was excited to chat to Ash and Kat about the 11 photographs no wedding album should be without.
As wedding photographers specialising in candid natural photography, we are often asked by Brides what our top ten wedding photos are. Thanks to the amazing diversity of the human spirit, no wedding day will be the same as another, but as a couple takes their first courageous steps into their future together, these are the photographs which we believe no wedding album should be without.
1. Sisterhood
On the morning of the wedding bridesmaids, mother of the bride and girlfriends coalesce in this gorgeous display of Sisterhood. We love to capture the intricacies of these female relationships as the Bride gets ready for the biggest day of her life.
2. Gentlemen
Working as a couple means we can always capture the morning of the wedding from both the Bride and the Grooms perspectives, with heart-warming results.
3. Presence
As the Groom waits for his Bride, he is immersed in the here and now, not focusing on the past or future, but rooted in the present. It’s a wonderful example of how every day of marriage should be.
4. Perspective
We only have our own perspective until we are shown another. We love to present more than one side to the story wherever we find the opportunity.
5. Joy
There are many moments of true, unfiltered joy on a wedding day. In marriage, we experience all that life has to offer, both the highs and the lows, and this captured moment of pure joy is a reminder that the best is always yet to come.
6. Humility
Our favourite thing about wedding speeches is how friends and relatives who have been with the Couple along the journey humbly offer their thoughts and feelings. We love the honesty of these moments. These photographs are a true reminder of the support and love of good friends.
7. Identity
Every couple is made up of two unique individuals who have joined their lives together. These shots honestly reflect the Bride and Groom’s relationship, and showcase their individuality.
8. History
There is such importance in the relationships that that have brought the Bride and Groom to their wedding day. The sense of family history in this image is a reminder that we are all here, at this exact moment, for a reason.
9. Influence
Marriages have the power to inspire the next generation about the power of love in the world. That’s why we adore these photographs of children enjoying the day.
10. Nature
Because there is simply nothing more beautiful than two human beings celebrating their love against the backdrop of nature’s rich tapestry.
11. Journey
At the end of the wedding day, we love to capture a final shot of the couple as they have a chance to reflect on the start of their journey as Husband and Wife.

Tell Your Friends
Before taking to social media to announce your engagement to the world and his wife, make sure your nearest and dearest receive a phone call and hear the news from you personally first.
Get Insured
After contacting your loved ones, this is the most important phone call you can make. Insuring an engagement ring is not as expensive as you might think and it is priceless should the absolute worst happen.
Get A Mani
All eyes will be on your finger and its brand-new bling, so ensure it is looking its level best by investing in a little pampering session!

Capture The Moment
When you do decide to make your engagement public, share a snap that captures the moment and tells your story. As much as your friends want to see your brand-new sparkler, they also want to hear how he proposed (and preferably with no details spared!).
Party
Last but by no means least, celebrate! This is such a pivotal moment in your life and one that only comes round the once, so don’t let it pass you by. Take the opportunity to raise a glass (or three!) surrounded by all those that you and your fiancé hold most dear.

November 2015 saw the official launch of Seedlip, the world’s first distilled nonalcoholic spirit, set to solve the ever-growing need for a sophisticated alternative to alcohol for those not drinking. Shying away from the standard fruity and sweet offerings, Seedlip combines six individually-distilled barks, spices and citrus peels to create an adult and complex blend best sipped long with tonic or short with brine as a non-alcoholic martini. Seedlip’s liquid history stems from an ancient book published in London in 1651 named The Art of Distillation, offering forgotten copper-stilled, non-alcoholic remedies now repurposed to pioneer a new non-alcoholic spirits category relevant for the modern day. Blended and bottled in England, Seedlip has created a coveted bespoke distilling process for each individual botanical. The distilling process means that Seedlip boasts only 0.2 calories per recommended 50ml serve, is sugar-free, sweetener-free, artificial colour- and flavour-free, making it the go-to option for those looking for a credible alternative to alcohol.

I love inspiring brides and grooms with wonderfully original and inclusive ideas for their wedding day. Here are my Top 5 Do’s and Don’t’s For The Perfect Jewish Wedding:
DO expect to kick up a storm, and have your face glisten with glee (and sweat) during the ‘hora’, the joyous tradition of Jewish dancing. Just be careful not to fall off the chair, and make sure those with a penchant for booze are not the ones nominated to lift you!
DO try to experience the pure and sacred side of a Jewish wedding as much as possible, as the spiritual significance is often lost in all the madness of putting it together.
DO create a Pinterest board to store all your wedding ideas in one place. Pinterest is your best friend when it comes to planning your big day, as you can collect beautiful images and wedding design tips and paste them all in one place. It’s not only useful for you, your boards will also help give guidance to your suppliers. If you don’t want your whole social network to see details before the big day, use one of your private boards for your favourite ideas.
DO incorporate things into your wedding that are important to you, for example, a nostalgic song that brings back memories of when you first got together, favours made by you or a family member, table centres incorporating things that are personal to you as a couple, messages from guests woven into your chuppah design – the more individuality you stamp on your wedding, the better.
DO take time to be calm and in the moment of your day. Hand over the reins, don’t think about any of the details and enjoy your wedding day for what it is: a joyous celebration!
DON’T try to please everyone. This is your opportunity to do things as you want and it’s a time to be making decisions without having to justify them or fit expectations. Real friends and family will understand and those that don’t are not worth losing any sleep over.
DON’T expect local guests to adhere to a black-tie dress code if you’re getting married in Israel. They will show up in shorts, with a couple of unexpected extra kids in tow. Expect guests that confirmed attendance not to show up, and guests that were not invited to make an appearance instead – that’s how they roll in the land of milk and honey!
DON’T think that you need a large bridal party of groomsmen and bridesmaids if that’s not your bag. What you do need is a circle of a few close friends to rely on for support, help and mini-errands on the day. Have a think on who you would like to enlist in the months or weeks leading up to your wedding – close friends and family will feel honoured and will be only too happy to help.
DON’T invite too many people. Fewer and closely connected is better than inviting a cast of unknowns, and makes for a far more meaningful, intimate atmosphere.
DON’T follow the crowd. Be true to yourself and have the confidence to do things your way, whether that means incorporating something non-traditional into your ceremony, picking a weird theme or wearing a gown so impractical you can barely move. Go for it, this is your day!
Happy Planning!

Here at Bridebook we love all things new and exciting; whether it’s our incrediblebudgeting tool (if we do say so ourselves), the naked cake trend taking the world by storm, or #welfies – the more it pushes the envelope the better! So when we heard about House of Ollichon, we knew we wanted to hear more. House of Ollichon is redefining how we think about bridal fashion by offering the modern bride a fashionable and more practical alternative to the traditional wedding dress. Read on to learn more about how to own being a “dress-less bride”:
House of Ollichon was launched just six months ago (yes, we’re still babies!) to bridge the gap for fashion forward brides between the big dress and the high street offerings. The collection includes luxury bridal jumpsuits and pretty but trendy two pieces. As far as we know, we are the only bridal collection to exist without a dress in sight! After my struggle to find something for my own wedding at Islington Town Hall (I didn’t want a dress but something that pushed my bridal boundaries); House of Ollichon was born. Wedding trends are changing rapidly, there are so many weddings now that are more of a party than a big ceremony and like mine, some end up in the pub! Imagine a huge dress down the local!
The Jumpsuit Bride
Does a dress simply seem too much fuss? Many women out there desperately want to don the trousers for their wedding day and so they jolly well should! Women’s tastes have evolved beyond the traditional ‘meringue’ stereotype and now we have the confidence and individuality to ‘dress’ in trousers. Until now, we just haven’t had that many options!
Our beloved English weather!
Imagine if it rains, imagine if you have to drag your dress through puddles or hitch it up round your ankles to avoid them; kind of ruins the look right? Jumpsuits have this magical power to hover above puddles and delete this concern from your otherwise graceful arrival.
Love your shoes?
Then don’t hide them under a million skirt layers, you can finally have your wedding shoes on show!
In the mood for dancing…
The biggest annoyance from my wedding was the fact that once the party started, my dress was no longer my new BFF. It hindered my moves so much (maybe this was a good thing), I was carrying the train around all night, I still have photos of it draped over my brother’s shoulders as it was even in his way! Once I’d adopted that s*d it moment, I knew there was no more www.preloved.com cash back for me… the bottom was greyer than a winter’s morning, the beading dangling off and beautiful lace totally shredded. Embrace trousers and avoid the dress- heartache!
That toilet moment.
For anyone who thinks weeing in a jumpsuit is a pain, try it in a wedding dress; jumpsuits win every time. And, you don’t need an assistant!
Post wedding hang ups…
The day is done and now you need a metre wide space in the cupboard for a dress you’ll never wear again. Jumpsuits (even white ones!) can be re-worn, re-loved, and ensure you keep your day alive without ever offending another bride!
A four day wedding? Why not!
With wedding celebrations overseas spanning across long weekends, there are so many more outfit opportunities for the cocktail, brunch, and registry office ceremony before the big bash. Do you really want to wear a dress every time?

Yes, we know that we are stuck in the middle of winter. But let’s turn a blind eye to the drop in temperature and look on the bright time of the year: Spring. And in terms of wedding decoration one thing is sure: It will be colourful – but soft. Our colour expert and trend forecaster Pantone Color Institute has recently named the top 10 Spring trend colours. With Buttercup and Peach Echo included, the bride will be spoiled for choice. And of course, we want to share the entire colour palette with you. Enjoy!
Colours of the Year: Rose Quartz and Serenity
Always included in the Spring’s Fashion Color Report is the Pantone Colour of the Year. For 16 years the Pantone Color Institute has been annually selecting the Colour of the Year, a colour that reflects the global Zeitgeist. “What we do is try to read the pulse of the public,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. Therefore, a colour expert team led by Eiseman literally comb the world looking for new colour influences. And this year for the first time in history, Pantone has decided to shake things up and give us not one, but two Colours of the Year: Rose Quartz Pantone 13–1520 and Serenity Pantone 15-3919. As its name suggests, Rose Quartz is a gentle pink pastel tone that conveys compassion and composure. Serenity, as a pastel blue tone, comforts with a calming effect bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times. According to Eiseman the two colours reflect well being, order and tranquillity: “With the whole greater than its individual parts, joined together Serenity and Rose Quartz demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”
And those pastel pink and soft blue are true wedding must haves: Their pastel transparency can be used in the selection of fantastic accessories to the wedding. Invitations, menu cards, flowers, room and table decorations can be optimally designed in the Colours of the Year. As an idea: Serenity can be drawn as a sky-blue string through the entire areas or as a background colour of the invitations. For those who like romance will immediately take the Rose Quartz flowery embroidery ideas on the tablecloth to their heart. Add silver for some splash and sparkle.
Behind the scenes
The Pantone Fashion Color Report launches traditionally on the first day of New York Fashion Week and presents the ten most important trend colours of women’s and men’s fashion for the upcoming year, which the designers are using in their upcoming collections. As a tribute to the beauty of natural resources the colours of this year serve as a vehicle to promote relaxation, curiosity and exploration. “Yet with our culture still surrounded by so much uncertainty, we are continuing to yearn for balance by incorporating those softer shades that offer a sense of calm and relaxation,” explains Eiseman. “The colour palettes of this season transport us to a happier, sunnier place where we feel free to express a wittier version of our real selves.” The designers were inspired by the contrast of urban design and by vegetation. This results in surprising colour combinations. The collections remind of architecture and travel and bring a sense of nostalgia with it. Designers took for example inspirations from the destination Cuba to play with courageous colour statements and coupling these vibrant hues with quieting, classic and more natural tones. But here is no clear difference between the colour palette for men and women – Unisex is trend:
PANTONE 161548 Peach Echo:
The fashion and design communities, and consequently, consumers, have been in love with orange for several seasons. Coming to the fore this Spring: Peach Echo, a shade that emanates friendlier qualities, evoking warmth and accessibility. Whether you incorporate this beautiful orange hue as a subtle accent or as the dominant colour, it will be sure to add an on-trend and bright addition to your wedding decor.
PANTONE 19-4049 Snorkel Blue:
Playing in the navy family, but with a happier, more energetic context, the maritime inspired, Snorkel Blue implies a relaxing vacation and encourages escape – perfect for a destination or coastal wedding.
PANTONE 12-0752 Buttercup:
While the majority of the Spring/Summer palette trends toward calmness, a few diversions from the theme emerge that offer a contrast. With Buttercup, designers reveal a shining beacon transporting its wearer to a happier, sunnier place. The high energy Fiesta is a harbinger of excitement, encouraging free-spirited exploration to unknown but welcoming locales – perfect for that adventurous and energetic couple!
PANTONE 13-4810 Limpet Shell:
A shade of aqua that leans toward the green family, Limpet Shell is clear, clean and defined. Suggestive of clarity and freshness, its crisp and modern influences evoke a deliberate, mindful tranquillity. Limpet Shell would make an ideal colour for more intimate weddings with your nearest and dearest close.
PANTONE 17-1564 Fiesta:
The high energy Fiesta is a harbinger of excitement, encouraging free-spirited exploration to unknown but welcoming locales.
PANTONE 16-3905 Lilac Gray:
As in most any season, the need for neutrals in the beige and grey family arises. The subtlety of the lilac undertone in Lilac Gray adds a distinctive edge to this classic grey shade.
PANTONE 15-1040 Iced Coffee:
Iced Coffee is a transitional colour that will take us through the season as another strong neutral. With its natural earthy quality, the softness and subtlety of Iced Coffee creates a stable foundation when combined with the rest of this season’s palette.
PANTONE 15-0146 Green Flash:
Green Flash calls on its wearer to explore and escape the mundane, radiating an openness that combines with the rest of the palette in unexpected but serendipitous ways. The popularity of this brilliant hue is representative of nature’s persistent influence even in urban environments, a trend continuing to inspire designers.

There is no wedding dress designer that can equal the timeless elegance and sophistication of Phillipa Lepley‘s designs. There is something so undeniably irresistible about the classic silhouettes, the endless attention to detail, and the flawless tailoring.
It is no wonder that Bridebook can barely contain the excitement of having the chance to share with you this fabulous Q & A with Phillipa herself. Packed full of insight and guidance for brides embarking on their bespoke dress journey, as well as stunning photos of Phillipa at work and her dresses, you will be sure to enjoy yourself reading this one!
What is it that drew you to bridalwear in particular, and what is your favourite thing about designing wedding dresses?
I am particularly drawn to and passionate about bridal-wear as I am able to work with corsetry, embellishment and fine feminine detail so closely, which I absolutely love. Both my grandmothers were passionate at sewing and making so I picked up a lot from them at an early age about fabrics and sewing. I was always making things and loved art and crafts.
After studying Fashion Design at the London College of Fashion I was fortunate enough to be accepted onto an apprenticeship with an established wedding dress designer based in Holland Park. One year later I launched my own business.
Your style is known for its timelessness – what defines a wedding dress or style as timeless?
We focus on finding the right shape and style for the individual, rather than following fashion trends too closely. If the dress is exactly right for the bride, really defining the figure beautifully with a fabulous fit, in clean simple lines it will stand the test of time. Quite simply, a dress that will age well. You will be looking at your wedding photos forever so you need a frock to stand the test of time.
What is the most challenging part of designing wedding dresses?
The most challenging part is finding the time to bring all of my ideas to life! I have so many ideas, because I am inspired every day by the beautiful brides I meet.
Is the fitting process altered or affected by the fabrics, and if so how? Are certain fabrics more difficult to work with?
Yes – but with such experienced seamstresses, we manage to make light work of the various silk fabrics. Plain, satin dresses are incredibly difficult to make so that they fit well around the shoulder area. I am quite OCD about this and won’t rest until that ‘spray-on’ effect has been achieved perfectly accentuating every curve, with no seems or folds.
What are some things brides should keep in mind regarding the fitting process when choosing certain fabrics?
No matter which dress a bride chooses, she will first of all attend a measuring appointment where an expert technician will see her in the sample shape, taking all the measurements as well as a visual rendition of posture. From this information, the pattern cutter will create a paper pattern, and then a calico toile will be made.
The calico toile is a mock-up of the dress, which is fitted to the bride’s body to ascertain the most accurate fit. This is fine tuned at the next fitting before the silk fabric itself is cut. More than one toile fitting is often needed to achieve the precise level of fit Phillipa Lepley dresses require.
How long before the wedding do you recommend a bride should start her wedding dress fittings? And when is the best time for the final dress fitting?
I would recommend you start the process of looking for your dress 6-9 months before your wedding. I feel that it is important to have an idea of how you want your day to look first, so that the dress fits in with this, so if you have already chosen your venue that is helpful.
My team of seamstresses like to have 6 months to work on a couture dress, however we can turn around a dress in two weeks if we really need to – I never like to turn away a bride! The whole process should be fun though, so start soon, take your time and enjoy every moment! Couture bespoke is a wonderful experience.
What essentials should a bride bring to her wedding dress fittings?
Tights (I personally don’t like bare legs in photos, when you are being thrown around on the dance floor!), shoes with a size heel you are comfortable in and some discrete, and comfortable knickers. Once you have chosen your wedding jewellery you can bring that along too, but usually brides decide on that later on, and they often bring all their accessories to their final few fittings.
Who should brides bring?
It is lovely to bring bridesmaids or family members, however I often suggest that brides come on their own to their very first appointment. That way they can make up their own mind on what they personally like, before being too influenced by other people’s opinions. There are plenty of opportunities to bring people along either to have a second try-on, or to the fittings.
When buying a dress that’ll need to be altered, what are key factors brides should remember?
Be sure to go to a skilled, expert seamstress because the fit makes all the difference. – someone who really has experience with corsetry and fine silks is key.
What are your recommendations on how to handle sudden weight change in the run up to a wedding?
Fittings are very regular towards the end of the couture process, so changes in weight (even very last minute!) are not a problem – – something we are very used to.
What budgeting tips can you recommend to brides in the wedding dress budget?
Brides often ask what they should splurge and save on and I always say to them that if the dress is perfectly fitted people won’t be looking anywhere else!
Do you have some wedding planning tips for brides to be?
Don’t be overwhelmed by the search process. You need to feel relaxed and open-minded right from the start. You will be invited to try on as many dresses as possible, including those that don’t immediately jump out at you. Leave any pre-conceived ideas outside the door as wild cards can often be ‘the one’!
Consider adding your own special touches. The lining of the gown could be embroidered with the date of your wedding, or your initials and those of your intended. A special piece of jewellery could be incorporated in to the dress and you could wear a family veil, tiara, or keep sake.
A slight change to a gown for the evening is on-trend. A shrug, button-backed top or bolero could be removed leaving either a strapless dress or different straps. A belt could be added, removed or changed. For a winter wedding a fur shrug could be removed, or a change from a veil to a tulle stole could be incorporated into a summer wedding look.
A silk tulle veil will frame the final look adding romance and mystery. The right veil will complement the gown, echoing detail with a hand worked lace edge or a splash of sparkle. Or a clean satin bias binding can offer a crisp clean finish and really enhance the look.
Whether opting for a couture gown or not, choose one that is timeless; it can be ‘modern’ but it needs to age well and stand the test of time in your wedding photographs.
Happy Planning!
Are you as obsessed with Phillipa Lepley’s designs and bespoke approach as we are? You can book a consultation with the lady herself through her Bridebook profile, or visit her website!
One of the most sought after jewellers in the luxury style set, including a personal favourite of the Duchess of Cambridge herself, Kiki McDonough epitomizes timeless style through her vibrant and wearable pieces perfect for the style-wise bride. Bridebook was lucky enough to chat with Kiki to get the inside scoop on how to accentuate your wedding day outfit with your jewellery.
Besides the rings, if you could only wear one piece of wedding day jewellery, what would it be?
Earrings to light up and frame the face!
What is your absolute favourite wedding day jewellery piece?
A tiara. Your wedding day is the only time you can wear one, and they are the most beautiful pieces of jewellery.
Colour is a definitive part of your design style – what are some different ways a bride could incorporate colour into her wedding day outfit?
Lots of brides choose blue topaz jewellery. It is a wonderful colour because you can wear it afterwards which is very important. I think it is a shame never to wear your wedding day jewellery again.
If a bride wants to keep her ceremony jewellery to the minimum, what are some recommendations for incorporating jewellery pieces at other points of the day and night?
We sell pretty little diamond hoops which are perfect for during the day, and brides can then add drops for the evening.
Or if you really want to add some sparkle for the dance floor, a lovely colourful multi-gemstone necklace is sure to be a show-stopper!
What is the most creative way you have seen blue incorporated into a bride’s wedding day outfit for her ‘something blue’, and how would you recommend a bride do that through her jewellery?
We sell beautiful blue topaz heart pendants and matching earrings surrounded by diamonds. One recent bride wore the blue pendant herself and then bought her bridesmaids matching necklaces, but each one was given a different stone to suit their individual colouring.
What type of jewellery did you wear on your wedding day?
I wore a diamond Fleur De Lis brooch belonging to my mother (something old and borrowed), and a little pair of blue topaz earrings (something new and blue).
What was your favourite moment from your wedding and your #1 wedding planning tip for brides to be today?
My favourite moment was leaving the house with my Father, as I really felt I was leaving home for the start of a very exciting new chapter.
My advice would be to always try to take a slow pace throughout the day – it goes so quickly so try to absorb it all and not let it wiz by in a complete flash.

It’s not just about toasters, tea sets and towels…the only thing that should limit your wedding gift list is your imagination. Bridebook went straight to the pros at Amazon.co.uk to get their essential tips in tackling your gift list, covering everything you need to know to start putting together the perfect wedding gift list!
Start Early
Creating your gift list is an incredibly exciting part of planning for your future. The gifts you receive may well be with you for the rest of your life.
They will become a reminder of the day you started a new life together and also of each and every guest who wanted to commemorate that day so allow yourself plenty of time to carefully select and research everything you choose.
Think Variety
Always make your list longer than you need as your guest will value having a variety of items to choose from.
Amazon.co.uk has the world’s largest selection available for wedding gift lists; anything that is available on Amazon.co.uk can be added so make sure you select items that reflect your personality as a couple and will be things that you can enjoy together.
Price Range
It’s a good idea to have a wide range of gifts across various price points so that you are catering for all budgets. From photo frames and mugs to garden furniture and TVs, offer options across the price spectrum.
You can also add gift cards or incorporate charity donations into your list if you want to.
Go For What You Love
Don’t be constrained – whether you want design classics for the home, top-of-the-range cookware, luxury beauty and skincare products, a case of vintage champagne or a pair of bikes so you can kick start a new hobby together, do you research to ensure you’re getting the best of the best. With customer reviews you can make informed choices and read genuine customer feedback across all products.
And if there’s something specific you want from another online store and want truly endless options you can opt for the Universal Wish List Feature and add that to your list too!
Eight Weeks in Advance
We recommend sharing your list with your guests eight weeks in advance of your wedding day. This gives them plenty of time to purchase the gifts and is short enough to avoid any products going out of stock.
It’s always a good idea to review your list a couple of weeks before the big day so that you can add extra items if necessary.
A Helping Hand
You are likely to have guests of all ages wanting to contribute to your day so make it as easy for them as possible. With an online gift list you can just share the link to your list and your guests can purchase at the click of a button, which will ensure you don’t receive duplicates.
Plus, there’s an extra bonus: as soon as your guests collectively spend £250 on gifts for your wedding, you will receive a £50 Amazon.co.uk gift card. (Ts and Cs apply)
Say Thank You
Once the wedding and honeymoon are over it’s easy to forget the all important thank you. People still appreciate a hand written thank you card and we provide a Thank You list which allows you to keep track of what has been purchased and by whom, so you can show your gratitude.

Don’t forget to take advantage of all of Bridebook’s amazing free wedding planning tools today!
Vic Brotherson, owner and founder of the hugely popular London flower shop Scarlet & Violet, shares all her greatest tips and insights with Bridebook in this wonderful Q&A. From Star Wars buttonholes to ‘meadowy’ flowers to essential budgeting secrets – this is definitely one of our juiciest Q & As yet!
How would you describe your signature style?
Gosh I have answered this question a few times and I still find it hard to put into words! I hope our signature are flowers that feel natural, uncontrived and meadowy, using blooms and greens that are interesting, detailed and textural . We arrange them as much as we can as if they have been picked and gathered from the garden, selecting tones and shapes that work alongside each other to build up to the finished bouquet or arrangement. It’s a bit like painting or drawing – layering and making sure that each stem has an impact whether just a subtle shadow or a shot of colour – each bunch is different and every day has its new beauties. We definitely tend to favour the more feminine, softer colours if left to our own choices.
What is your #1 tip for a bride deciding on flowers?
I can’t resist giving more than one! My top tips include looking at everything you can and seeing what you love, and making sure that the flowers you adore are available at the time of year of your wedding before you set set your heart on them. Choose your dress and venue first as these may have an impact on the colours and style of the flowers. If you’re not sure look at both options made into bouquets – brights or softs – and trial them by taking them home and have a posing hour in front of the mirror! See which works with your skin tone and wedding dress colour. Take pics, see what looks good in photos – this is the crucial thing as so much of the day is about creating beautiful memories. Keep an open mind don’t be too set on specific flowers, as you may see something when you go to the flower store that changes everything. Don’t be nervous or scared of looking at everything as even the most novice of flower buyers suddenly has a favourite and it’s always surprising you have more of an idea of what you love than you would imagine.
How do you add character to a men’s buttonhole?
I’m probably not the best at this as I do favour timeless flowers – I definitely encourage the gents to get involved and choose what they love, be it a bundle of herbs or a rose bud colour that they love- again I am always surprised at how suddenly the choices are made once there are actual flowers to look at, hold and smell. It can all get quite specific for these tiny little bundles but then again they are the only male element to the flowers so most chaps suddenly speak out. We have used star wars characters, scrabble letters, badges, tied with a variety of ribbons and embraced a few different nations with a nod to various cultures with native flowers and foliages – men’s buttonholes can be fun but remember they should not be overwhelmingly large. (Read more about grooms attire in our article here).
What is your best flower budgeting tip?
Get everything else right first, chairs and tables, linens etc. Think about anything else that’s going on the table too and where you are up to budget and space wise and work backwards- there are lots of ways to economise on flowers – be clever with single stems, be inventive with inexpensive blooms and foliage, be careful about doing them yourself as it can be too much. Be upfront about your ideal budget and then its up to us to make sure that the flowers are the most beautiful and suitable to work within that.
Can you describe the most challenging assignment you’ve had?
I can’t think of one where I have felt any more frightened than usual – I am still nervous every wedding we do – I take what we do very seriously and not until it is all under way does my Saturday turn into a relaxed afternoon and I can breathe again!
What was your favourite moment from Kate Moss’s wedding?
Seeing the bridesmaids walk down the meadow walkway outside the church, that was my breathe again moment.
Whose wedding would you most like to do the flowers for – past, present or future?
My daughter, Betsy- a while to go yet but then I’ll be able to make all my favourites – so she’ll have to get married early June!
What was your favourite moment from your own wedding?
I’ve been married for 20 years – I was a florist and we got married early July so we had boxes and boxes of English delphinium for the church all down the aisle – it was such a memorable moment- the rest of the flowers were pretty minimal which just goes to show really that it’s just picking the right bits to focus on as there are flowery moments and none flowery moments.
So you’re planning your big day. With the help of Bridebook.co.uk’s super powerful Budget tool and über-comprehensive Checklist, you’ve got the key areas down: Venue, check! Car, check! Partner, check! Now it’s onto the fun bits, looking for those final touches to make your day unique and well… perfect. Etsy’s got your back – with an ever-growing selection of creative individuals designing some beautiful pieces to help dress your day, we’ve pulled together a mighty fine selection of bits and bobs to spark your imagination.
Edible wedding favours
Firstly, you want to leave a personal touch on the table for your guests. What better way to welcome them than with a delicious sweet treat? From gold leaf marshmallows from Yolk to luxury chocolates from Lynda Jane Cakes and the Whimsical Cake Company, it’s the perfect way to add a personal touch and give a taster of what’s to come!
Table Numbers
The table plans are complete – you’ve sorted out who’s sitting next to Uncle Fred and you’ve gone all Paddy McGuinness with pairing the singles. To make sure to avoid any unnecessary drama, accompany each table with table cards – and I’m not talking Sharpie on a Post-it note here. Feast your eyes on these pretty creations: these hand-calligraphed Kraft table numbers from Ivy & Inks are ideal for chic urban celebrations these tag shaped numbers from Creationery are perfect for rustic receptions, whilst this cute love-heart design from The Lovely Drawer is a super-easy design you can print at home!
Confetti
Confetti is a MUST HAVE. However the days of cut tissue paper are long gone. Think Harry-Potter-pages-cum-confetti from Roseberry Store, dried flowers from Lotus Floral Art and heart shaped pieces of London Sparkle floating through the air . Take a look at the selection below.
Extras
I’m sure you’ve got plenty of ideas for your table but see below a few extras that would really add an extra special touch. Place a jar of boozy sweets from HollyLollies on the table, get creative with these table card holders from Handmade by Mamas and finish off the night with some celebratory sparklers with punny tags from Creative Paper Makes *safety first people*.
Wedding planning can be a massive affair, and for most it’s the first (and last) time you’ll do it. Sometimes it can help to have a guiding hand through the marital maze, which is why at Bridebook.co.uk we have world experts on hand to answer your wedding worries. Think Mary Berry for cakes, and Jimmy Choo for shoes – and Bridal Musings for guest enjoyment. With Bridal Musings having more than 3.3 million followers on Pinterest you’ll want to take note…
Make it Personal
Of course a couple will want to make their wedding day personal to them (initials decor is so popular right now!) but if you really want to wow your guests, why not make your day personal to them too?
Whether it’s a wedding booklet with a note and headshot for each of your guests, a personalised photograph in every place setting or a crowd-sourced playlist with shout-outs from the DJ, tailored thoughtful touches are guaranteed make your guests feel just as special as you do.
Up Your Food Game
Even if you’re a big fan of beef or salmon, chances are you’re not going to be floored when it’s served to you at your wedding reception.
If you really want to impress your guests, opt for something different with your eats. You can search our wedding venue directory for loads of gorgeous blank canvas spaces on there that’ll let your individualise your eating! Keep it casual with food truck tacos or family-style tapas, or opt for a luxe twist like sushi platters for the cocktail hour or a boozy sorbet between courses.
Any kind of creativity will be appreciated by your guests, big time.
Entertain Us
The biggest thing couples wish they’d put more thought into before their wedding? The entertainment. Throwing a great party means more than just sussing some evening music – why not add in extra elements throughout your day to keep your guests entertained?
Lawn games for the little ones, a mariachi band for cocktail hour, or a table quiz for guests as they take their seats. Touches like these go the extra mile for making your bash the most memorable one of wedding season.
Be Considerate
So you’ve been planning your wedding for months, forked out a small fortune on your meal, and had to be ruthless with your guest list. Your guests are lucky to have made the cut, right? Wrong!
Some of your guests may have spent a lot of money, travelled a long way, or had to take time off work to make it to your wedding, so make sure you shower them with your appreciation.
If your guests have several weddings/hen nights/stag dos to go to in a year, they’ll be hugely grateful for affordable accommodation choices, or pre-arranged transport.
From organising late night foods or pre-ceremony snacks to keep them from getting peckish, to providing blankets (for outdoor weddings), flipflops (for the dance floor) or hairspray and breath-mints (for freshening up!) any little touches you make will be more impressive to your guests than even the fanciest gown, venue or centrepieces.
All The Lights
Want to wow your wedding guests, but don’t have lots of cash to spend on styling? Scrap your flower budget, and sink your cash into lights and candles instead.
Okay, so we absolutely adore blooms, but it takes a lot of them to make a big impact. Deck your venue out in as many fairy lights, string bulbs, spotlights and candles as you can possibly muster, and your guests are guaranteed to gush when they walk into the room.
Banish the Nerves
Okay so this one is easier said than done! But it’s important to remember that your wedding is not a show, it’s a party. (The best party, like, ever!)
And if you want your guests to have a great time, the best thing you can do is just relax, and have a great time yourself.
The most fun weddings are the ones where the love between the bride and groom is truly palpable, and the couple are having the time of their life!
Laugh your way through the vows, beam during dinner, and be the first ones to hit the dancefloor in the evening. Lead the way for a fun night, and your guests are sure to follow suit!
All of your wedding stationery questions are answered by the wonderful Papeterie Eugénie in this wonderful piece. Read on to cover all the ins and outs you need to know before picking your stationery and be inspired by Papeterie Eugénie’s beautiful designs!
Your wedding stationery is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your choice of style. It normally provides the first impression of your special day and a taster of what’s to come. It’s the perfect way to link different ideas and communicate with your guests.
With so many options available, it may feel hard to know where to start. Firstly, take a little time to think about what you might like and what you might need. Secondly, read my essential advice below, written especially for the launch of Bridebook.
Gathered from years of experience as a bespoke wedding stationery consultant and designer – my top 10 pointers will guide you through your paper trail…
1. Your stationery starting point
I normally advise couples to confirm their venue, dress and floristry before making wedding stationery decisions. These features provide the backdrop to your day and often steer your choice of stationery styling.
2. Defining your wedding style
Grand or informal, elegantly understated, contemporary or vintage? The list is endless, so agree on something you love and showcase this style, even loosely throughout. Carefully chosen stationery will successfully link all elements of your special day.
3. Choosing your colour palette
Less is more and a limited palette creates an elegant finish. Select white or cream as your cornerstone, then choose one or two colours to reflect the tones of your day. If going bold, then gold or silver looks stunning on darker card.
4. Creating an impression
Do you want to communicate an elegant event, inject a little fun, or get people talking? Wording can be used to reflect your personalities too. Never underestimate the impact of stationery to set the tone, finish tables and say a personal thank you at the end.
5. The guest list
Would older guests cope with an app or prefer a traditional style RSVP method? Do visitors from abroad need earlier notice or advice on accommodation? This may influence your invitation design and timing, so it is worth considering.
6. Making the most of your budget
Recent trends show desire for heritage techniques such as letterpress or engraved invitations. While these are expensive, some modern variations enable similar effects for less. Make special finishes like embossing, foiling or laser-cutting more cost-effective by using the same motif throughout. Printed invitations are most reasonable, so make these stand out with a unique illustration or personal design. A little hand-finishing can add a special touch.
7. Pruning back
It may be possible to trim certain corners, such as skipping save the dates or providing smaller evening invitations. However, never scrimp on envelopes, matching information or a stylish seating plan – scrappy alternatives will undermine all your efforts.
8. Finishing touches count
Keep fonts, colours, motifs and styling consistent. If going for an eclectic mix, make sure every item is quirky, but respect your colour palette throughout. Good attention to detail gives a polished result.
9. When to send
Traditional etiquette dictates that invitations should arrive six-eight weeks prior to your wedding, with evening invitations at the same time. Modern lifestyles make this risky without a save the date, so often couples send day invites six months before, with evening invitations nearer the time.
10. From start to finish
Always meet your potential wedding stationer and/or request samples. Quality varies enormously and your stationer will be with you throughout. A good relationship means that they will coordinate the finer details with your other suppliers-and help you with that last-minute Seating Plan change!
In Summary:
Couples often tell me that wedding stationery becomes their favourite part of their planning. Of course! It is something you can enjoy together, a marrying of your personalities, a feature that can be truly unique to you both.
As well as making the first impression, wedding stationery forms keepsakes for you and your guests. My seating plans are often framed as lifelong mementos, a picturesque reminder of your special day; whilst signed illustrations or guest books provide emotional reportage from everyone who was there.
So, whilst every wedding is individual, your stationery always counts- please don’t forget to make it special!

Could you walk us through your typical process with a bride?
All of my dresses are bespoke, and having a bespoke dress means the dress is made to fit your measurements exactly and includes a toile fitting, which is a cotton mock-up of the dress so that the bride can see exactly the design and fit of the dress before seeing it in the fabrics of her choice. There is flexibility on the details of the dress and the fabrics she chooses, so a bride can make it her own.
What do you think is the most challenging aspect of having a bespoke dress?
The most challenging aspect is that the bride needs a certain amount of vision, while understanding that there are some limitations to fabrics and designs one should always keep in mind.
What is your #1 tip to brides preparing for a bespoke fitting?
My number 1 tip is to wear the correct underwear for all the fittings. To have the correct underwear is so important, nude works best and seamless preferably. A good bra is vital under many of my designs, the Delphinium dress for example needs a backless bra, and luckily these are so readily available now. Marks and Spencer do a brilliant one, the Foxglove dress needs a bra with a transparent back, Boux.co.uk do an excellent one.
What is your favourite wedding dress style and what are your favourite wedding dress details?
At the moment, my favourite design is my Delphinium dress which is new for 2016 and is very Grecian and simple but exquisitely cut in a beautiful heavy crepe.
Could you describe the most challenging assignment you have ever taken on?
Some brides are more challenging than others, but we endeavour to ensure that they are all happy on the day!
What fabrics do you recommend a bride consider for each season?
Heavier fabrics such as zibeline and mikado work well for winter and autumn weddings, whereas softer satins and crepes are more suited to spring and summer. The chantilly laces are so pretty in the warmer months, beach weddings or gardens with that festival vibe, and the guipures are perfect for those golden autumn weddings (our Mimosa gown illustrates this perfectly). A little bit of fur is fabulous in the winter, we have some exquisite rabbit trims.
Which cuts do you recommend for the bohemiam, modern, whimsical, and classic bride respectively?
Princess lines work perfectly for the classic bride, the fuller skirt, maybe with pleats in a fine mikado for that Grace Kelly look, such as the Orchid gown. Finer silks such as a light weight zibeline work well as a sheath shape for an elegant Jean Shrimpton look, maybe with a grosgrain bow or waist detail, the Sunflower dress is the perfect example of this.
The bohemian bride suits the lighter Amalfi satin or crepe with a fine chantilly lace, look no further than the Primrose dress, below, with its pretty capped sleeve and low back detail.
The modern bride suits a dress like the Foxglove, a streamlined crepe and georgette gown with a boat neck and a low lace back. Alternatively, for that Chelsea Registry Office look, early sixties vibe, chose the iconic Snapdragon zibeline coat with little strapless lace dress underneath, below. Accessorise with black and white Kate Spade vintage bag and black shoes.
If you could have designed anyone’s wedding dress – past, present or future – who would it be and why?
The lovely Lily James, currently playing Natasha in War & Peace, would look gorgeous in one of my designs, maybe Primrose or Amaryllis or Foxglove.
What type of dress did you wear on your wedding?
I absolutely love the dress I made for my own wedding 24 years ago, an oyster shantung sheath, dress with Calais lace, slightly off the shoulder, and a lovely slightly ruched back detail.
What was your favourite moment/memory?
Arriving at the church with my little attendants and seeing my future husband for the first time, waiting for me by the altar.
What is your #1 planning tip for brides today?
The devils in the detail; but chose the details carefully. Some things are really not that important, don’t worry about the things you can’t control, such as the weather, concentrate on looking after your guests, making them feel part of a really special celebration that they will remember.

Are you trying to decide whether to wear your hair up or down on your wedding day? Brides often face this dilemma, but fear not, today we give you some of the best advice from one of our dearest wedding experts: Rose Magnall.
If you want to cut to the chase, these are the questions you should be asking yourself in order to make a decision:
How do you usually wear your hair?
Are you more comfortable with it up or down?
What kind of dress are you wearing?
Keep reading to explore these questions in more detail with our wedding expert, and by the end of this article, you should be on a good path to making your decision!
Rose Magnall is a freelance hair and make-up artist who also works closely with the Liz Earle Beauty brand, celebrities and international bridal clients. Rose is based in London, but travels far and wide and knows how to get you walking down the aisle looking like an absolute goddess:
I find the decision between hair up or hair down is one of the most common difficulties many brides face in the run-up to their wedding. Hair, after all, is a woman’s crowning glory, and we as a gender can be pretty obsessed with our locks. This obsession tends to be magnified on our wedding day, as many things are!
There can be many pressures about how your hair ‘should’ look – from worries about the weather causing havoc if your hair is down, to agonizing over the many style options of an up-do, not to mention the endless ‘hairspiration’ photos to be found online and thinking, which of these is right for me?
My advice in helping any bride to make the decision would be to focus on two main questions: first, what suits the dress? And secondly, (and I think most importantly) what are you most comfortable with? Let’s focus for now on the latter.
Personally, for me, when it came to making the decision for my own wedding last year, I took a step back (many years back) and remembered how it felt to be a young girl, imagining myself as a grown-up woman getting married. Although I have long and generally well-behaved hair, I always imagined that I would wear my blonde hair up in a chignon – it was a clear vision that never wavered.
Perhaps the main reason I knew I wanted my hair up, is that I’ve always felt comfortable with it tied back, I’ve enjoyed wearing up-dos and having my hair styled off my face. I’ve also always found it easier – once it’s up, its up, and there’s no maintenance required.
However, for every girl who loves wearing their hair up, there’s another who prefers it down. And, in most cases, they always will have. I have worked with many brides with the most beautiful thick hair, who want nothing more than to show it off at its best on their wedding day.
And rightly so. Bridal hair down styles are exquisite, and girls who love to wear their hair down will feel nothing less than perfect if they decide to go down this route for their wedding. The thing is, brides who choose to wear their hair down tend to be girls who always wear their hair down – bottom line, they feel the most comfortable, beautiful and confident with their hair down. It’s the same reasoning for brides who choose to wear their hair up – it just feels ‘right’ for them.
So, amidst the stresses and endless to-do lists involved in planning your wedding, take a step back and think about what it is that you really want – not what fashion and trends and family members want, or think you should do.
Think back to memories or occasions (a good opportunity to look through old photos) in your life when you felt the most beautiful and confident – was your hair down? If so, then maybe down is the way to go for your wedding day.
There are always ‘half-up’ options too, which can be a lovely way to show off your hair while keeping it directly off your face. This is quite a popular route for brides who are torn between up or down. Some brides begin the day with their hair up, then have their hair stylist transform the style into hair down for the evening (if you have the time and the budget this can be really special and a lovely surprise for your groom).
The dress also plays a part in deciding how your hair should be worn – if you want to show off back-detail or shoulders then that can help you to make a decision. Bridal boutiques can offer great advice during wedding dress fittings – and you’ll get a feel for what looks better with certain dresses as you try on various styles.
You want to look back on your wedding day as the most wonderful experience, knowing that everything was perfect for you. So, follow your heart and trust your own sense of style, and on the day you’ll feel the happiest you’ve ever felt.
Happy Planning!
