Highlights of the venue
John struggles to identify just one standout feature: “There are so many stand-out features at The Pear Tree. Let’s start with the amazing location on the edge of a picturesque village surrounded by beautiful countryside. It has amazing architecture (some parts of the house are over 400 years old!). The Orangery dining room is flooded with natural light and looks directly onto beautiful gardens and a vineyard. The food is exquisite, the service is 5 star and it even has 17 bedrooms for your guests to stay. It really is the perfect setting for a wedding.”
The venue’s culinary excellence is of particular note. John comments that the standards of service and food quality is the highest he has experienced in his long career in the wedding industry: “Our Head Chef and his team recently won an award for his cuisine, which was much deserved.”

Memorable moments at The Pear Tree
John started in the wedding industry many years ago as a DJ: “Over the years I went into event managing and sales. I love this industry because it’s so exiting! We get to throw a party almost every day – what other job lets you do that!”
John also shares his most memorable wedding at The Pear Tree, which is the perfect example of how personalised and bespoke your own celebration at this venue could be. “My most memorable wedding was one I managed when I first started in the business over 30 years ago. It was a Star Trek themed wedding and everyone was dressed up as crew or aliens. The tables were named from different episodes and they served dishes from the Klingon empire. Me being a big sci fi fan, I absolutely loved it. You could say, it was out of this world.”
Expert advice from The Pear Tree
John has three pieces of expert advice for couples planning their wedding:
- “I think the best time for a ceremony is 1pm. This gives you enough time to get ready and your guests won’t be too hungry when they sit down to eat.”
- “Menu choices can be tricky when putting a wedding together. The golden rule is to choose food that you and your partner love.”
- “Sometimes couples don’t enjoy the food as much as they could because they are so worried about speeches after the meal. If you don’t like public speaking, or worse, are worrying about what someone else is going to say, have the speeches before the meal.”
