Looking to discover how much the average wedding costs this year? Introducing Bridebook’s UK Wedding Report 2025: our annual wedding industry study revealing year-on-year changes. This year’s is our most comprehensive to date – our 9th annual edition and our most insightful yet! We surveyed 7,000 engaged and married couples (1,000 more than 2024), representing a mix of regions and demographics, to reveal the latest trends in wedding spending. Let’s take a look at what couples are spending on and how it’s evolved since last year.
Average Cost of a Wedding in the UK
According to our data, average wedding spend has remained steady for the first time in a number of years, with a slight increase when including honeymoon and engagement rings. The average total cost of a wedding in the UK in 2025 is £20,822, which remains stable compared to 2024 at £20,775. The figure rises to £26,583 including the engagement ring and honeymoon
Average Cost of a Wedding for Gen Z
Younger couples, particularly Gen Z couples, are still finding ways to spend more on their weddings, with many prioritising personalised details while remaining cost-conscious. Although many have a reduced overall budget, Gen Z is embracing more affordable, creative options such as second-hand items and unique decor pieces. When it comes to specific costs, Gen Z couples are spending less on average: £19,095 compared to £21,255. In addition:
- 30% of Gen Z spend less than £10k on their wedding, vs. 25% for non-Gen Z.
- 22% of Gen Z spend over £25k on their wedding, vs. 27% for non-Gen Z.
Average Cost Range of a Wedding
There has been a widening in the range of spend by couples:
- 26% spend less than £10,000
- 10% spend £5,000 or under
Adjusting for inflation, this is an effective drop in spend of 30% for couples with lower budgets. That said, couples have also become more flexible, opening up opportunities for venues to fill diaries at traditionally less popular times or for alternative types of venues able to enter the market.
At the same time, there has been a 25% increase in spend since 2021 for mid-range and higher-cost weddings.
- The top 10% of weddings in 2025 cost more than £38,000 (vs. £30,000+ in 2021)
The top 25% of weddings in 2025 cost more than £27,000 (vs. £21,800 in 2021)
Average Wedding Costs by Supplier Category
Average wedding spend was fairly consistent between 2023 and 2024. The most significant cost remains the wedding venue (£13,180 average with catering, and £5,945 without catering, representing 25-50% of the total wedding budget).
Couples inevitably prioritise different elements of their wedding day, often choosing to invest more on suppliers that are particularly meaningful to them, whether that’s luxury photography, a custom-made designer cake or another special touch. It’s important to remember that these figures represent average costs based on a typical wedding in 2024 and do not capture the full price range possible for each service.
While some couples may splurge on certain elements, many others opt for more budget-friendly alternatives, which tends to lower the national averages. Luxury services can far exceed these averages, and as with most things, you often get what you pay for (for example, a bespoke, intricately designed and decorated three-tier cake is naturally not comparable with a simple single-tier shop-bought variety). So do bear these considerations in mind when working out your own wedding budget and spending.
